DC Villains
Episode 27:
"Sowing the Seeds of Destruction"

Roll Call:
Bucky
Captain Republican
Chemical Lad
Mr. Roboto

Manhunter informed the Secret Society that their destruction of Project Cadmus [see episode 26] had created some interesting ripple effects that they could take advantage of. There was great interest among other science labs in hiring the displaced Cadmus workers, and a special job fair was being arranged to help them find new positions. The Society's job would be to disrupt the fair and thus discourage companies from hiring the ex-Cadmus employees and benefitting from their talents. Simultaneously, Mother Box would have a chance to hack into the mobile devices of the various employers, giving the Society access to their companies' servers.

Alas for the Society, the overlap between "scientists" and "super-heroes" is considerable, and they found themselves knee-deep in crime-fighters (albeit some semi-retired) as soon as they arrived:

Bumblebee, with her buzzing wings of destruction [Disintegration Ray] and sticky Honey Gun [Grapnel]
The fleet-footed Golden Age Flash [Super Speed, Vibration Ability Field]
Rising Sun, with his mastery of light [Light Control: Laser, Force Field, Absorption: Energy]
The mechanical marvel, the Golden Age Robotman [Density Increase, Heightened Senses: Radar]
The Golden Age Starman, armed with his Cosmic Rod [Power Blast, Force Field, Invulnerability to Energy]
The high-tech, hammer-wielding Steel [Armor, Heightened Strength, Special Weapon]

Robotman's built-in radar allowed him to easily target the invisible Bucky, which made him an early target for the Cap/Bucky team, as well as Mr. Roboto, who was eager to test himself against a "classic model". Even his steel chassis could not last long under their combined assault. Flash's speed allowed him to attack the entire team virtually simultaneously, and his ability to vibrate into intangibility made him difficult to attack, but the strain on his aging body eventually proved too much [i.e., he ran out of Power Points] and he soon fell as well. Steel's hammer dealt massive amounts of damage, even managing to knock out Bucky, but the combination of Captain Republican's blows, Mr. Roboto's vibration beams, and Chemical Lad's acid spray eventually penetrated his defenses. The remaining heroes, while formidable, did not last long after that.

The Society had effectively ended the job fair, and Mother Box had her hooks into several new computer systems.

[Loot Drops: Flash's Boots (Super Speed), Starman's Rod (Power Blast).]

The assault on Cadmus, as well as the follow-up at the job fair, led to an increased awareness of cyber-security among business leaders. Several prominent CEOs were gathering to discuss possible improvements and new protections. The Society's anonymous benefactor obviously wanted to nip this in the bud, as well as give Mother Box a chance to worm her way into some prominent business' systems.

But once again, the conference attendees included several super-heroes among their number:

The dark knight himself, Batman [Armor, Natural Weaponry, Arsenal]
The bombastic Blue Beetle [Light Control: Flash, Vibratory Ray]
The mystic-powered Green Fury [Flame Blast, Flame Aura, Ice Blast]
Mento, with his psychic helmet [Mental Blast, Mind Control, Telekinesis]
The Kryptonian maid of might, Power Girl [Heightened Strength and Endurance, Light Control: Laser, Invulnerability to Kinetic]
The gas gun-wielding Golden Age Sandman [Poison/Venom: Paralysis, Grapnel, Invulnerability to Biochemical]

Always leery of psychics, the Society dog-piled on Mento first, and it didn't take long to pound through his telekinetic force-field. Chemical Lad was stymied by Sandman's protective (and stylish) suit, but it proved less effective against the rest of the team, who took him out before his sleeping gas could take effect. Power Girl traded punches with Bucky and Cap, while Batman chucked Bat-grenades in their general direction, confident that they wouldn't hurt PG much [alas, they didn't do much to Cpa or Bucky either, who kept making their dodge rolls]. Eventually, both the Last(ish) Daughter of Krypton and the Caped Crusader fell. Mr. Roboto and Chemical Lad were able to target Green Fury from a distance, avoiding her fiery aura. Blue Beetle managed to hold Mr. Robot in a stalemate, their vibration beams cancelling each other out [Counterblast], but once the rest of the Society was free to target him, he dropped as well.

Mother Box, meanwhile, added Wayne Enterprises, StarrWare, Dayton Industries, et. al. to her list of conquests. The mysterious mastermind's plans were slowly coming together.

[Loot Drops: Batman's Utility Belt (Arsenal), Green Fury's Lipstick (Flame Blast, Ice Blast).]

[I had a third encounter planned, but we were running late, so I pushed it back to next week's session.]

[The player characters earned 3 character points each, giving them a total of 181.]
