We spent the evening walking around with the intent of finding shirts and making it to Wu-Mart (you heard me). We were successful on both counts as we both gots shirts with random stuff on it, but what's even better is that my shirt starts off mostly decipherable, but then just sorta gives up at the bottom and says things like:
FSFJOFWOSOPWPWPDE
KG PSPW PWP FWSOEFPWP
(and so on)
Wu mart actually had Westerners in it although no one spoke so I'm not sure from whence they hailed and if they're living in the city or just visiting.
But today also had the inevitable sad part where I start wishing for a few more days and instead we have to cut our trip short by a day. We're still not sure if we're flying straight through or if we'll have to spend the night in San Francisco.
Today was also successful in that we did make it to the Forbidden City and enjoyed it, then walked for miles and miles to a small Taoist temple that had things like "the Department of 15 Violent Deaths" and "Department of Timely Retribution." Things I can get behind. Since we got there close to closing we also got to watch the monks chanting and pretty much had the temple to ourselves which is about a far from different than the Forbidden City scenario where people are constantly walking into your photo, into you, and into others. It really hammers home the point about the differences in personal space and how much different cultures have/need. But if you want to see something that everyone else is looking at, you just have to jump into the fray.
