i think for the past week i have cooked out more then i have ate regular non-cookout meals. for some reason, every single night has turned into throwing some meat on a grill and enjoying the taste of a barbeque. dont get me wrong, i sure as hell love it.
last night i was invited over to angie's house to once again drag out the 'ol grill. with a phone call like, "you gotta come over, i bought about $100 worth of food to cookout", how could you not? i thought that it would be better if she came over to our house because she doesnt have an area to really cook out at. i could picture us, on prospect avenue's sidewalk, flipping brat patties. she informed me she would rather stay at her house and that in fact, she too has a cement slab in back of her entire apartment building that i was unaware of. ok. so. food. check. charcoal. check? grill good to go? check?
turns out that when i get to her house, she doesnt have charcoal. she hasnt used her grill in several years. not a big deal, we just walked to koppa's. as we are heading back from the store she brings up a trip that we took to walmart like 5 years ago while in new orleans to see jazz fest. "remember that crappy little $10 grill we bought and thought it was a piece of shit? thats what we are using." oh god. it took me a few minutes to think back. it was a very stoned vacation and most of those memories are hazed over. i actually didnt remember the grill when i said i did. then i saw it. for some stupid stoned reason, we totally took it apart when we left new orleans. so here we are, stoned again, trying to use this piece of shit that hasnt been used in 5 years. we managed to put just the right pieces together with no frills of the extras, just as long as it was able to be used. the brat patties were still frozen in the freezer. the coals were too close to the actual meat on the grill. they nearly burned from this hunk of junk. so many problems. just too stoned.
however, she showered me in some of the best food. leave it to angie, she is so good about some of the finer things in life. brie and a baguette to start. brat patties in the middle. chocolate fondue with strawberries, bananas, and yellow cake to finish. who the hell cooks that?! i ate like a queen. but felt like a ton of bricks. ah, quality of life. you gotta have good friends to spoil you!
