As promised in an earlier post this morning, here is the report on the Friday night gaming session.
As noted already, Nick Roberts is currently running the
Desolation rpg, and I am playing my Mongrel Primalist, Sakhut of Ridge River. For those who are interested in the
previous session, follow the link.
Once Jheda Veng (Kathy) had woken the rest of us up, and we armed ourselves, the party was attacked by primitives with spears and wearing fur armour who obviously had night vision (accounting for the glowing eyes). We accounted well for ourselves, but my character, Sakhut, suffered a horrible injury when a spell that I cast didn't so much backfire as just failed badly, and I suffered eight (8) points of Burn. Coupled with my physical weakness from another 3 points of damage suffered in the fight, and I almost died this time out! It was only with Sarah Mitolan's (Angela) healing skills that I survived the night. When I woke the next morning, most of my injuries healed, Hovan Durkent (Nick), criticised my actions of the night before, and we got into a good in-character row (that netted us both some Style Points), eventually managing to compromise, though he and I weren't as friendly as we'd been before.
As the party packed up and got ready to move on from our campsite, Novus Antrides (Tom) told me that they had questioned some of the Survina (the tribe that attacked us the night before) who had survived, and learned that they have also suffered ruination at the hands of the "child takers". They had attacked us, mistaking us for those who had stolen their children, though they knew that attacking us with our fine metal instruments (weapons) was suicide. He said that those who had stolen our village's children were not Warlanders, but actually a race of ape-like men who inhabited a nearby forest. So we were travelling to the forest, as I came to realise.
The rest of the game session consisted of the party making our way out of the volcanic area and into a deep, dense forest, where we had a few nasty encounters. I was attacked by a forest fisher, and took another 3L damage (healed of two of these by Sarah, but both Novus and Parm Corlanus (David) took even more serious damage from an attack by a Broken or Weave-touched forest cat, though I managed to make myself useful and drive the beast off with some vicious magical claw wounds. We settled down and camped for the night, and that's where Nick brought the evening's game session to a close.
While I had been somewhat beaten up by the night's play of
Desolation, I really enjoyed myself in the game, and was kind of interested to find out where this was all going to end up, and whether we are going to be able to rescue the children (if they're still alive). Nick told me that he was worried several of us would die from the attacks we'd suffered, but said that he's enjoying running the game, though he does find combat difficult to run for the most part. He rather enjoyed the dust up between Sakhut and Hovan that occurred, and rather enjoyed Angela's major role in the game session, as her healer had some serious work to do on our characters.
Looking forward to next week's session! :)
