December 1st. The start of a new month. And the start of the Christmas season for those not of the atheist or non-Christian faiths.
This month promises some interesting stuff.
To start with, the
Primeval series comes to an end on SPACE this month, and will be the last of the series for quite some time, methinks, if it doesn't get renewed, although there is the future with
Primeval: New World if that show does indeed work out. While there are also the Series 4 and Series 5 DVDs to look forward to late this month or early in January, that just leaves
Terra Nova as a series in this vein to watch, for however long it lasts.
I'm not watching all that much tv these days - Once Upon A Time, Pan Am, Terra Nova, Castle, Body of Proof, and Unforgettable - and with Pan Am getting the axe (though there are five or so episodes left of the show), that'll be cut down somewhat. I'm actually feeling somewhat jaded about what's on tv these days, and wish the networks would release China Beach and the rest of Crossing Jordan on DVD already.
The Geology class that I'm taking is quite interesting and is keeping me somewhat challenged, a good thing I suspect, as otherwise I might feel somewhat in a rut. There is likely not going to be a field trip for the class this month (due to the season and limitations on some of the venues), but I heard last night that a museum field trip may be in order this month. In any event, I've enjoyed the class and am happy I'm taking it, and look forward to what this month brings. And the reading and stuff I've learned in the class has definitely made it worthwhile.
In that regard, my book reading over the last few months has suffered somewhat due to reading geology texts and stuff on-line, but to be honest, I've been content with my reading for the past three months. Given that the whole DC Comics thing has changed with their new set-up, I've got fewer comics to read, and have been able to devote more time to some of the books I've read this past few months, and November's reads were no exception. The fact that my DVD is pretty much a dead issue has enabled the reading somewhat more, I guess.
On that subject, one change that will occur this month will be the purchase of a new DVD player (likely Blue Ray) and I am likely to try to join the modern age with a tv purchase as well. Ideally, I'd like to buy a 36" tv, but I don't think they come in that size, so may have to settle for something in the 40" range. I've got about 30+ DVDs sitting on the shelf that I've not been able to watch, so the new DVD player is a necessity (and there are several new DVDs on the way at the end of the month as well).
And then there's the roleplaying game stuff. I'm running the
Primeval RPG in campaign (though the game won't be out until some time the first quarter of 2012), and am rather enjoying that at the moment. And yes, the blog entries about the game sessions will go up as soon as I have a bit of time on my hands. The face-to-face gaming will suffer a bit this month, what with holidays and vacations as per usual, but that's good...it'll give me time to just relax a bit on Friday evenings and Sunday afternoons a bit. :) I plan to spend part of this month and January devoting some attention to the
All For One: Régime Diabolique roleplaying game, as I'll be running that starting in February or so. I've also got the
PRIMEVAL: Tales of the Anomalies PBeM game that is just getting rolling now, as well as the
Airship Pirates: Tales of the Airship Pirates PBeM game. (Both PBeM games are looking for a few good players, so if you're interested, check 'em out.) So there's a good deal of gaming stuff at the moment, which will keep me busy for the next little while, and I'm hoping to do some rpg writing stuff for some of the game companies out there as well in the near future.
Otherwise, should be an interesting month. If my back holds up to it. :)
