Start of September

September 1st. A new month. In many ways, thank Goddess.

August, 2011 has been one of the strangest months in a while, with some real great moments, some really poor ones, and a mixture of other types in between.

The month started out with me feeling quite poor due to my health, the doctor coming to the conclusion that I'm suffering from severe allergy problems. Then there was was the matter of my back, with the bulging disc that I'm dealing with by taking meds when the pain gets too bad, and hoping that it'll just recover on its own (and that I can delay any surgery needs as long as possible). One of the highlights of the month was the trip to Indianapolis at the beginning of the month (literally) for GenCon Indy, and while I had a really good time for the most part, I did wonder several times whether a) I would survive the convention and b) whether I'd made a mistake in going down to it. The answer to Part a was that I did survive the convention, thanks to medication when necessary and the efforts of spross at times, and the answer to Part b was that it was definitely not a mistake going down at all. Met some great people, and overall had a good time. I don't think I've actually recovered from GenCon as yet, simply due to the fact that I didn't get to take off a lot of time after getting back and going back back to work, combined with the allergy problems that I've had.

The month has seen ups and downs, as all months do. There's the gaming experiences at GenCon Indy and here at home since I've got back. There's the memories of the terrific new friends I made at the convention. There's the horrific riots in Britain, and some of the coverage I saw and read of the events. There's some of the books that I've read this past month (yes, there will be a blog about my August reads some time in the next day or two). The news of the terrible death of NDP leader Jack Layton. And then there's the Abney Park's Airship Pirates roleplaying game.

This past month's blog entries have dealt with GenCon, my allergies and health, and the Abney Park's Airship Pirates rpg for the most part, as well as some dinosaur news and some sadder stuff, and that doesn't even include some of the other news of the world and from around the country. So I apologise to all my readers about some of the "same old" feel that the journal entries for August seem to have had. I'll try to do better for this month. :)

In the meantime, on to September... Hope it's a good month. :)
