The Boston Bruins won the NHL's top prize last night, the
Stanley Cup, beating the Vancouver Canucks right in Vancouver by a 4-0 score to win the series 4 games to 3. Congrats to the Bruins!
While I didn't watch the game last night, as I wanted to catch up on some of my DVD viewing so instead watched three hours of Crossing Jordan, from what I saw the game was hard fought and it really came down to the Bruins superb defensive play and the goaltenders. Tim Thomas, who won the Conn Smythe award as the MVP of the playoffs, really did outduel Roberto Luongo over the course of the series, and was consistently better than Luongo in the series overall.
While I would have liked to have seen the Stanley Cup return to Canada after a somewhat long absence, I am also pleased that the Bruins won the Cup since they haven't done so in 39 years, and because former Senator Chris Kelly was traded to the Bruins this past year, and other than Mike Fisher (now with the Nashville Predators), Kelly is one of the few players that I've liked over the years who deserved to win a Stanley Cup.
Anyway, congrats to the Boston Bruins once again for being the 2011 Stanley Cup champions!
