Weird Happenings on Saturday

Today was one of those weird days where things just...happen.

To start with, my mother has been having problems at her house with her stove. That is to say, it's not working because of power outlet and supply problems. She may have a working stove sometime on the 7th of this month, but for the nonce nada. For this reason, my mom spent the day at my house cooking food for Rosh Hashanah which is coming up shortly, and making a few other things just because she had access to my stove.

Then, I went with spross to Staples to look at printers today. It's the Labour (Labor for you Americans) Day weekend, and there was a good sale going on. I really didn't really plan on buying a printer, honestly, I just wanted to see what the story on them was. So I spoke to a couple of sales reps, one of them, Chris, being a friend of mine who knew about Linux Ubuntu, and whom I asked all the right questions to, and the next thing I know I've just bought myself the gorgeous Hewlett Packard OfficeJet 6500 printer! I honestly had my doubts about the printer, since I figured it might not run under Ubuntu, but...

Anyway, the next thing I know, spross and I are at my place, unpacking the printer and installing it for use. The house, btw, smelled wonderful, because mom was still cooking food. Mmmm, mmmm. To make things interesting, spross picked up the same printer while he was there, swayed somewhat by the right questions I asked and issues of print cartridges and colour. Everything pretty much went well, and Ubuntu actually saw the printer and allowed me to exert the print functions in all the applicable programs. The only real problem that I had was with the scanner, but that was solved by grabbing a set of HP software for the scanning side of things and installing that. Printer works like a charm. spross left somewhat late, 'cause I woudn't let him go until the printer was set up. I'm like that at times, and his presence kept me from stressing out.

In the meantime, it's finally after supper, and I've got a bunch of work to do for tomorrow's Shadow, Sword & Spell game for the Sunday group, as they're starting that campaign tomorrow. Looking forward to this.
