R.I.P. James Earl Jones (1931 - 2024)

Terribly sad news in the world of entertainment today.



Actor James Earl Jones, known for his work in film and theatre, has died at the age of 93.

James Earl Jones had a stutter since childhood. He said that poetry and acting helped him overcome the challenges of his disability. A pre-med major in college, he served in the United States Army during the Korean War before pursuing a career in acting. His deep voice was praised as a "stirring basso profondo that has lent gravel and gravitas" to his projects." (Ann Hornaday, September 25, 2014). Best known for voicing the role of Darth Vader in the Star Wars films and Mufasa in The Lion King and other projects, Jones is also well known for his film roles in The Great White Hope (1970) with Jane Alexander, Claudine (1974), Coming to America (1988) with Eddie Murphy, his brilliant performance in Field of Dreams (1989), his terrific performance as Thulsa Doom in Conan the Barbarian (1982) and too many other roles in television, film and in the theatre to mention here.

James Earl Jones was a master of his craft, distinguished by his size somewhat in various roles and the features of his face. Able at both serious and comedic roles, his legacy is his life's work in theatre, film, and television, and he will be remembered for the variety of his roles and the quality that he brought to all his performances.

Rest in Peace, James Earl Jones. You've earned it for a life well lived and well remembered.
