We continue on today with #RPGaDay2024 for August.
Day 18 - Memorable Moment of play
This prompt has comes up regularly over the years of this month's reminiscing about rpgs, though it has taken slightly different forms over the years. I've been running (and playing) roleplaying games for 40+ years, so there have been a few memorable moments in the games I've run.
When it comes down to it, one of the reasons I run (and play) rpgs is for the memorable moments. It's the idea of sitting around a table to game with friends, co-creating interactive tales of adventure, heroism, humour, sometimes horror, and magical moments that stand out years later, telling stories like what are told around campfires. It's about the life of players and their characters, the laughter and tears that they experience together.
But when it comes down to it (once more)... In a game session of the classic
Universe SF RPG from the folks at SPI, the player characters knew that there were alien shape-shifters infiltrating the facility that they were at, and when one of the player characters was mortally injured by the one masquerading as the doctor, the other player characters took her to the doctor's medlab for treatment. The dying player character knew full well that the doctor was the shape-shifter, and was afraid he would kill her, but couldn't tell the other characters about this due to her condition. Sure enough, the shape-shifter killed her when the others left to find the shape-shifter. A truly emotional scene, very memorable demise, and a great performance by Tammy as the player character in question. It was the pleading, helpless look on her face as the "doctor" told them that he would take good care of her. :)
And there you have it, my thoughts on this eighteenth day of #RPGaDay for August, 2024.
Comments, thoughts, questions, etc. are all welcome, of course. :)
