Four Days Until CanGames, 2024

May 13, 2024 13:42

And so it is Monday, in this technically the late second week of May. And that means CanGames, 2024 is just around the corner.

As a matter of fact, CanGames, 2024 begins in four (!!!) days, on the 17th of May, at the Rideau Curling Club here in Ottawa. While a small gaming convention, CanGames does offer a good variety of different board games, roleplaying games, miniature games and other events. My primary interest is roleplaying games, and the convention offers the tried and true such as D&D (various versions), Pathfinder and the like, but also offers rpgs from the more eclectic, older and obscure games out there.

This year, I'll be running three games - a session of the Doctor Who Roleplaying Game and two sessions of the Rivers of London: The Roleplaying Game. I'm looking forward to CanGames since I've not attended the convention since 2019, when it was cancelled from 2020 to 2022 due to Covid-19, and then missed the convention in 2023 because of a serious diabetic lesion on my left foot. I'm quite looking forward to running the three games, and can't wait to game with various folks at the convention. Here's the descriptions and info for the games I'm running at this year's CanGames...

Fairycakes
Game: Rivers of London: The Roleplaying Game
Time: Friday, 7:00 pm - 11:00 pm
Number of Players: 5
Description: When a very normal, respectable but somewhat dull businessman savagely attacks a homeless man that he swears is some sort of monster, the case file comes to the Folly. Because the homeless man isn’t a monster - but he is a troll. And DCI Nightingale would like some answers. So your investigators are tasked to find out what's going on. This adventure is one for the urban fantasy mystery roleplaying game based on the Rivers of London series of books by Ben Aaronovitch.

The Ruins of Skaro
Game: Doctor Who Roleplaying Game
Time: Saturday, 2:00 pm - 6:00 pm
Number of Players: 4
Description: While en route to Woodstock in 1969, your TARDIS is diverted to the harsh and dead world of Skaro, drained of energy. Facing the natural (and not so natural) hazards that dwell there, you must effect repairs to the TARDIS and survive several traps that have been left behind. Will you be able to repair your TARDIS and determine who or what forced you to the homeworld of the Daleks?

The Bookshop
Game: Rivers of London: The Roleplaying Game
Time: Sunday, 2:00 pm - 6:00 pm
Number of Players: 5
Description: An employee at Stonewaters Bookshop has been assaulted by assailants unknown while working late. The Charing Cross police have sent the case over to the Folly, as they believe it will be of interest to them. While it may or may not be a Falcon case, DCI Nightingale wants your investigators to question the bookshop employee and see if there’s anything unusual about the case. This adventure is the introductory case file (adventure) for the urban fantasy mystery roleplaying game based on the Rivers of London series of books by Ben Aaronovitch.

I'm not sure how many of the player spaces are filled for the three games as of this writing. While pre-registration for games is over of course, potential players can sign up for games at the convention itself. In any case, I'm looking forward to attending CanGames this coming weekend, seeing old friends and acquaintances and making new ones, running the game I've got scheduled, of course, and having a good weekend of gaming. :)

Hope to see some of the folks reading this entry at the convention! :)
