RPGaDay2023 in August - August 14th: Convention

Aug 14, 2023 15:03

We continue on today with #RPGaDay2023 for August.

Day 14 - Favourite convention purchase

Hmm, that's not an easy one, as to be honest I've been to too many gaming conventions over the years to remember what I bought at each and every one of them. The real problem I've had with stuff I've bought at conventions is that I tend to make too many impulse purchases. I've bought games that I wanted just for the reading of them sake; games that I wanted to run, 'cause they were intriguing and interesting - but that none of my players decided they wanted to play; games that intrigued me, but I realised that I couldn't run them after I had them at home... Too many games and little knick knacks that were just shelved and the like. Like I said, too many impulse buys. That's changed the last few years, as my...financial status...has also altered in my old age and all. And the fact that I've not been to a convention since CanGames in 2019.

That said, my favourite and best purchase I'm ever made was a nice wooden, 10" dice tray that I purchased years ago (at a GenCon, I think) from Koplow Games (which they still sell, though not on-line), and which I use at the gaming table and when I go to the local gaming convention, CanGames. Best purchase I ever made at a convention. Dice to go! :)

My other favourite purchases were at GenCon 2015. I purchased three dice bags - a new one for me, one for my friend, Tammy, and one for Kathy, as "presents", and also bought 36 dinosaur dice (some of which I gave away at the Primeval RPG games I ran as prezzies to the players (and they were all quite pleased at this), and three tubes of small, plastic poker chips. Kathy and Tammy still use the dice bags I bought them for gaming, and I use mine as well, the dinosaur dice were meant for the game but they are lovingly put away since I don't run the Primeval RPG any longer these days, and the plastic poker chips have found...uses. :)

And that's it.

And there you have it, my thoughts on this fourteenth day of #RPGaDay for August, 2023.

Comments, thoughts, questions, etc. are all welcome, of course. :)
