As mentioned last Monday (the 17th) in
this LJ entry, Chaosium Inc. released the brand new
Rivers of London: The Roleplaying Game in hardcover to the public. I placed my order for the game at that time, and guess what? I'm pleased to announce that my copy of the game has arrived! :)
The rulebook is absolutely beautiful, a massive tome clocking in at just over 400 pages. The cover of the book (see above) sets the tone for the game, and is a lovely piece that is rendered in matte format rather than bright and glossy as befits the style and feel of the game. The background of the interior pages is a light colour with reds and additional hues in places with black text that is readable. Very much appreciated by these 67-year-old eyes. The book has a double ribbon bookmark, something I've not seen a lot of in rpgs, and very useful. The game book's chapters seem to be quite nicely organised, and the Basic Roleplaying rules used in this game appear to be a simplified version of the various incarnations of the Chaosium game system. That said, there are a lot of charts from my flipping through the book, and I think that a physical GM Screen for the game would be appreciated at some point soon. Oh, and the various maps in the book could really a physical Map Pack product as well. (There is a map of the game world's London included with the book, but the other maps in the rulebook could make for a good physical product by themselves.)
Can't wait to start digging into this rulebook, and running the game! :)
