Yesterday, I finally had my referral to the orthopedist fulfilled, and that was a fun day...not.
I went to an orthopedist (also a rheumatologist) out at the Ottawa Civic Hospital, naturally on the other side of the city from me since I'm having to take taxi cabs everywhere I need to go. After filling in the paperwork and the finally seeing the doctor, who had the results of a couple of tests I'd had done several weeks ago, the fun really started.
The doctor gave me two injections in my left knee of [fill in the blank]isol1. The two shots hurt like absolute *hell*, and I wasn't sure if I was going to be able to walk out of there or not, but I lay down for about 20 minutes and then figured I'd be able to make it home by cab. In the meantime, the doctor told me that I was to literally stay off the left leg for all of today (Friday), and to not put any real weight on it if I had to walk (like to the bathroom, frex).
Today, my left knee is somewhat swollen and I can't walk on it at all even if I wanted to. It just...won't bend...without staggering pain. Just a day for me to take it very easy, walk the minimum that I need to, and just stay off the leg. Bed, bed is good.
1 I can't remember the name of the drug, other than the "isol" ending, but I've got the paperwork for it in my tote bag, so the drug name is there for me to add to this post later if I decide to go that route.
