Last night's game session with the Friday night gaming group was pretty good, and a lot of fun. Rather than continue on with their
Capharnaüm - The Tales of the Dragon-Marked campaign or switching to another system, the Friday nighters played a one-off session of the Capharnaüm game that allowed me to get some "practice" in before I run the game at
CanGames in roughly 2-1/2 weeks.
Once the players arrived for the game session, around 7:00 pm or so, we chatted for about 10 minutes about Real Life(tm) and stuff, and then got down to the game. I had them use their own player characters (see the various game session entries for more about the characters), and ran them through an "on a wing and a prayer" session (as I call them). Basically, the player characters encountered a pair of people wandering the Desert of Fire, searching for an object that they wouldn't identify due to some issues of mistrust. Attacked by a group of Red Lions of Shirad, hunting down the man and woman, the Dragon-Marked gave as good as they got, and managed to drive off the Shiradi warriors, but not before they overheard the word "Luminarium" from of the holy warriors. They confronted the two that they saved, but received no thanks and no explanation for what was going on, but an offer of (very high) payment if they accompanied the two as their bodyguards. Needing the funds but more curious than anything else, the Dragon-Marked travelled with the two to an oasis and had a series of supernatural and more mundane encounters there before they learned the nature of the "Luminarium" and were forced to make some ethical and moral decisions.
Overall, it was a fun night of gaming, I got to dip my hands into the
Capharnaüm - The Tales of the Dragon-Marked sands once more, and get a bit of practice with the game in before
CanGames happens in a couple of weeks and a bit. The players enjoyed themselves, and Kathy commented that I should right up the adventure a bit more, and perhaps run the full thing in a campaign or some such. :) May have to do that! :)
