Home From the Eye Examination
Just got back from the eye specialist at the Eye Institute at the Ottawa General.
I was a little bit concerned, as I've had some blurry vision of late (but I try to account for that due to the bug I've had and some of the stuff going on with my spinal nerves and the shoulder business). On top of that, I've had some instances where I think I've got a tiny blank spot in my vision; it's come and gone so fast that I sometimes think it's my imagination. So enough worries about my vision going into the yearly exam.
I was the last appointment of the morning with the specialist, Dr. Mintsoulis, and managed to get in only about 15 minutes late. I didn't drive, having taken a taxi since my vision wouldn't be that good after the appointment because of the dilation drops they have to use for the tests. Anyway, once I got to the exam clinic, I got taken in very quickly (last appointment may have its advantages), and the tests were had.
Suffice it to say, I was given the freezing drops, the dilation drops, and another set of drops that leaves a bit of a yellow residue around the eye for several hours. I had all the standard eye tests, including the vision test where you tell them letters you see on board at the far end of the room with various lenses affecting your vision. In addition, I had the pressure test and the one that I have once every few years. A small needle takes a sample of eye fluid for testing for retinopathy and several other conditions.
Pending the results of the last test, the verdict was pretty good. My vision has degraded somewhat, but not worth the cost of a new pair of lenses and specs. There are no visual symptoms of retinopathy and nothing else seems to be out of place with my eyes, other than a case of eye dryness.
I left the hospital and went out for a late brunch at a well hidden decent restaurant for breakfast in South Ottawa, and then headed home. Both trips by taxi, of course. I got home, and made a hot cup of tea. I took a (second) shower when I got home, but the eyes were still pretty bad from the morning tests, and I've been feeling under the weather the last few days. Feeling pretty dysfunctional for the afternoon as the eye dilation drops and the other drops they gave me for the eye exam made everything bright, blurry, and larger than life.
I spent most of the afternoon napping, after covering myself with a duvet and just lying down on the couch in the living room.
The eye dilator solution still hasn't worn off fully. Fuzzy vision is so much fun. (Riiiiight.)
