As noted in yesterday's blog entry, I decided to take a "movie day" and see a couple of movies. The first, Star Wars: The Force Awakens, I went and saw on my own in an afternoon showing, but the second movie, The Good Dinosaur, I saw with my goddaughter, Ellie, and Kathy, DavidM, and Crystal.
While I'm about to talk about the movies somewhat here, there will be no spoilers for either film. (I'm not that cruel.) Here's the first of the reviews.
I'll start with The Good Dinosaur. The basic premise of the movie is very simple, but provides the opportunity of a really good "What if?" situation: What if the cataclysmic asteroid that forever changed life on Earth actually missed the planet completely and giant dinosaurs never became extinct? Like I said, I'm not going to say too much about the plot. I think that The Good Dinosaur delivered some beautiful animation to a story that was quite worthy, even if it didn't live up the the usually lofty standards set by Pixar, but... It's a marvellous children's tale, where the dinosaurs are represented as the humans, and vice versa. In some ways, the film was a bit sloppy in how it got its messages across, and the fact that "villains" had to be present in the story felt very out of place. As I said, the animation is some of the best I've seen yet from Pixar, and overall this movie is a fun family adventure that kids and adults can bot enjoy. However, if you're expecting realism in terms of the dinosaurs...don't. :) My rating: 7.9/10.
