For those folks who are pondering whether to get involved and support the
River of Heaven RPG Kickstarter, I had posted up a bunch of questions to Newt Newport, the organizer of this particular Kickstarter for the game. His answers are what sold me on the game. Newt has posted up the questions and answers (with my blessing) on the Kickstarter

Now that you did the research on River of Heaven, what do you think of it, in terms of the material that you've read? And how do you compare it to Worlds Beyond now? Worlds Beyond, from what you said above, sounds to me like it's almost a military sf rpg, given the systems you compared it to. Is that accurate?
That said, I am glad that this is making you think of looking at River of Heaven when the game comes out. Heck, I'm already thinking I need to run this game at CanGames 2015! :)
(For me, when a game is considered a "hard" sf roleplaying game and has aliens, I expect the aliens to be done up realistically using science as it exists at that point.) Another reason why I have problems with so many sf rpgs that do aliens... Most of the time, players play them as men in alien suits, rather than actual *aliens* who don't think the way humans do.
Don't get me started on that rant. *sigh*

If the game does come out in book form than I will pick it up if I can find it. I really can't see myself dropping down money in order to get swag when all I need is just the book. I don't care about stretch goals or whatever they are call. Just gimme the book. ;)
I guess I'm just an old dog that refuses to learn a new trick. That being said, more power to gamers getting games out. Though, they are just doing fine without my dollar.

I don't know whether River of Heaven will be available in stores or not, given the working model of d100 Games, but since I assume that OpenQuest itself is, I assume it will be too. ::cross fingers::
I actually thought you were going to rant above, to be honest. :)
And like you, I'm an old dog in this regard, too... I like to think I've been selective with my support for KS stuff, unlike so many people I know.

If it's not in stores, I guess that's my loss for not backing a project and kudos to those who do. It's nice to see rpg's are still being made and there is still an audience out there for them.

If I had to get rid of all the rpgs that I've got here at the house, the only stuff I would keep would be the DragonQuest, Universe, SkyRealms of Jorune, Ringworld, first edition Pendragon, Atlantis trilogy (Arcanum), Atlantis: The Second Age, Yggrasill, and Primeval rpgs. Along with some supplemental stuff, as well. And that means I'd still be getting rid of a *lot* of rpgs and supplementary material!
As for River of Heaven, well... I guess you'll be able to play it when I run it next year at CanGames, right?

I could be convinced to sell it, maybe, but it would have to be an offer that makes it worth it to me to sell it. :)
