austin360 basically detailed out all my problems with last night's Oscars. Chris Rock? I like him, but I don't think his humor worked for the Oscars. And there was freakin' way too much Beyoncé. Why aren't her 15 minutes over? Why is she still being shoved down my throat? (See also: Puff Daddy, or whatever he's calling himself these days.)
The high points were Morgan Freeman's win and, of course, Cate Blanchett's. She looked stunning, as usual. I didn't care overly much for 'The Aviator,' but I loved her in it. I love her in everything. Emma Thompson is secure in her spot as my most adored actress, but the Mesdames Winslet and Blanchett are very close behind her. Speaking of which, Kate Winslet was a goddess in that blue dress.
Murray is still unpredictable when it comes to toilet training. I think he's still too young, and too excitable, to master it quite yet. He used my new sheets as a toilet last night, which was partly my fault because I had them folded in a pile on the floor, instead of in the closet where they belonged. Still. Ew. But he's so cute and crazy, you have to forgive him. Unless you're the Snippet, who's been peed on twice, and who tends to hold a grudge.
We finally saw 'Finding Neverland,' which was wonderful. One of those gentle, quiet films that I just fall in love with. I have loved the story of 'Peter Pan' since I was a kid, so I enjoy pretty much anything to do with it. (I dragged S to see the most recent film version while on our honeymoon.)
Johnny Depp just reaffirmed for me the fact that he is not only gorgeous, he is also a really wonderful actor. And I think my love of Kate Winslet is well-documented. Also, the boy who played Peter was perfect. A terrific little actor, very believable, without any of that Creepy!Dakota Fanning preciousness.
But the real highlight of the weekend was when we took a spin through the new Best Buy, and I found the first season of 'Degrassi Junior High' on dvd! AAAACK! 'Degrassi Junior High!' On dvd! Who knew?!
Did anyone else watch that show? Man, I loved 'Degrassi Junior High.' This cannot be overstated. Loved. Loved that show.
I watched a few episodes, and despite its lack of sophistication (and the truly hideous 80s wardrobes), it's still pretty ground-breaking. Try to imagine a US show about junior high kids that would deal with the subject of homosexuality within its first season. And this show came out 20 years ago.
Mostly though, it's just another excuse for me to walk down Memory Lane. Hee.
