Astonishing X-Men 7

I'm still a little stunned about issue 7. I usually read each issue twice in a row, mostly because I'm new to comics and I miss a lot of the visual cues. (Although I've found I have to read Excalibur about three times to understand that thing they're calling the plot.)This time, I put issue 7 down after just one reading. The end is just - frightening. I still can't process it.

In general, I continue to be impressed with Joss' skill at handling ensembles. There's a lot going on with each of the X-men, but I never feel that anyone's story is left out, and thankfully, I never have to see two characters talk about what's wrong with another in painful exposition. The monster battle impressed me - Peter's inner thoughts stopped by his "I should concentrate" and then Kitty does the same. Wolverine just thinks, "I like beer." It's hilarious, and yet I just learned a ton about what's going on with the Peter/Kitty and about Scott.

A question about the X-Men universe: So, there are superheros who have super powers but aren't mutants? Who are the people who swept in to beat back the monster, and what was that last thing one of them said about, "Can we be evil now?"

And finally, who do you think is going to be the mutant who destroys the Breakworld? My money's on Kitty. I don't know why. Just a feeling. But what do you think? Will it be Jean Gray, back from the dead - is she dead - again? Or a mutant we haven't met yet?
