*whimper*

I can so see Remus reacting this way, not wanting to believe, and be hurt again. Lovely.

It's lovely, such a great character study, the one thing that finally broke Lupin's trust in the world not having Sirius in prison but having him return only to be taken once more time... Absolutely magnificient. Harry's appearance in the ending is what really made it for me, all that tragedy turned back around by a teenager's love for his godfather, his unrehearsed hug!

Thanks! I felt like Harry's appearance would be what Remus needed to finally believe - because Harry's response is so unguarded.

Oh, the tragedy. And I had to imagine what it would feel like for Sirius to come back after Remus had lost him twice - there are really only so many times you can start over, and I think Remus believed he'd used his up.

I do so love this fic. You have Remus's denial down perfectly, and it feels so real.

Thanks so much. I'm glad you read the essay, too, because the story feels a little false to me without some sort of disclaimer. On the surface, it's just a regular story, but it wasn't a particularly sane writing process or aftermath.

Even though my logical side says he's dead, any my emotional side wants to be convinced that he is dead because finality is easier.

That's the heart of it. And I'm tempting your emotional side (and mine) with this story by giving you all these hints that just maybe he isn't dead at all.
