really, you can borrow my grill

Day 6 without power! Morale is low, and by low I mean, wtf is this shit, ok?

This morning was definitely one of those mornings where I felt like I was in an episode of due South. I got up while there were still stars bright in the sky to start the generator, and was all 'Look how rugged I am' proud of myself and enjoying watching my breath in the air and looking at the horizon. And then of course, I was in the kind of episode of due South where Frank RayK gets hypothermia, because the generator ran for two minutes and then stopped. I couldn't get it started again, despite my serious troubleshooting and/or calling my dad. I was sad and cold, but the power company projected 99% power restoration by noon, so, I made tea and soup on the grill and waited. Noon came and went. K called the power company, and it turns out 99% is more like 50% restoration and guess where we fall? Projected estimate is now tomorrow at noon, but I will believe it when I see it from the inside of a hot shower with the furnace running hot and the fucking biggest pot of tea ever waiting for me.

I am writing this on a borrowed computer in a borrowed hotel room where I was able to take a shower and eat my expensive-cafe latte and fancy-pants soup (that was presumably heated on a real stove) without having to wear mittens. Next up, headed back home to try the generator or possibly borrow a neighbor's generator and then I can sacrifice more of my paycheck to yet another restaurant/take-out dinner or I can suck it up and make another veggie burger and grilled veggie melange on the, yeah, you guessed, it, grill.

no going to the lighthouse
