As we gaze out on

Sometimes, especially when I'm driving, I'll entertain myself imagining unlikely cover songs. For instance, I've become quite attached to the ridiculous idea that someday Brendon Urie will sing Josh Ritter's 'To the Dogs or Whoever,' mostly because the only other singer I can think of who could cram so many lyrics into a breath. (Then of course there's the infamous non-existent Leathermouth cover of 'Kathleen.') This morning, I was imagining the joy that would be Reggie and the Full Effect covering Van Morrison's 'Jackie Wilson Said (I'm in Heaven When You Smile).'In fact, I would give up coffee for a month to hear James Dewees do the whole of Saint Dominic's Preview. I may be the only person in the universe who'd want to hear that, but that's ok.

I don't mind saying that this weekend sucked a whole fucking lot, and it's painful to crash into Monday without so much as a reprieve other than the Van Morrison I quite obviously listened to this morning, but here I am. Good things are afoot, though: the Detective Agency sequel is at beta, I'm working on the third (and let's just go ahead and say it's the final lest I get any ideas) part of Ghost Frank next (seriously, please hold off on the curse!) And when I go home after work, I'm going to bake some cinnamon buns and watch Becoming (Part 2) from the second season of Buffy, so take that, Monday.
