Moons of Madness

I am wearing a very Mikeyway-esque French pirate striped hoodie today, which feels thematically appropriate, since I watched The Pirate Planet for the first time last night. The Brattle theater was showing a weekend of Doctor Who and in addition to killer robot parrots, I got to see quite a few quantum locked statues, Sarah Jane being incredibly adorable (when isn't she, really?), and Rose showing off to her boyfriend (with the help of the Doctor) only to leave him behind when he proves to be a complete idiot. (I always forget how happy The Long Game makes me. Rose is confident and completely in love with traveling, having no problems adjusting to the strangeness of Satellite Five and introducing it to Adam the same way the Doctor introduced it to her - and then the way Rose is set as both opposite to Adam and to Cathica, because she asks the right questions, because she's not afraid of finding trouble, of finding the answers. I love her body language with the Doctor in this episode - how comfortable she is, how her attention is directed at him but she's not hanging all over him. I love the end of the episode, where the Doctor tells Adam he only travels with the best, and how, for a minute, it seems like Rose might give Adam more sympathy, but she only mocks him and turns her back, and it's wonderful.)

Besides the fun of watching Doctor Who with scottxwl, and some lovely, quiet time in New Hampshire on Saturday, I am not sad to see the back door slam shut on this weekend. It was filled with some exhausting and sometimes unpleasant Family Business, and though the judicious application of coffee is making me fly through this morning, underneath it, I'm still pretty weary, and could steer my French pirate self straight to a nap.

coffee on demand, fantastic!, no going to the lighthouse
