Young Bristow Women

Another Alias recap from last weekend's marathon rush toward the series finale: There's Only One Sydney Bristow:

So, ok, this show knows what we like. They don't always give it to us, mind you, but they sure know how to make us squeal with delight. Because, last episode: Irina Derevko. This episode: Will Tippin and Anna Espinoza. That's the way to end your season, bring back the old favorites.

There's Only One Sydney Bristow was so much better than the combined entirety of episodes this season (with the exception, of course, of Maternal Instinct) and it reminded me of when Season Two was in full wavy hands swing. It was funny, and it was fast, and most of all, it was familiar. The pacing, the tone, it was what was missing from the beginning of the season, as they stumbled to set things into play. After introducing all these new characters and their backstories, what we really needed was Anna leaving a lipstick-kiss on the window that divides her and Sydney.

I want to hug whoever it was who came up with the idea for the Agent Babysitters. And there was Jack, once again, with the best lines of the season: "You don't leave edged weapons in the reach of children." Sydney says, "She's only 4 weeks old," and Jack responds, "Particularly young Bristow women."

Poor Will, kidnapped again, and he gets to be his funny old self, improvising while under cover (seriously, another character who is SO NOT FIELD TRAINED) and all, "Sydney, my head is beeping!" But this is also post-Revenge Francie's Death Will, and he whacks Anna Espinosa with what I think is a fire extinguisher. In the end, he's still the squishy Will we love, Syd's best friend who tells her he's glad she's saving the world and who asks her to be his best man when she thinks he's asking her to tell his fiance he loves her in case he dies on the mission and I love it.

I think the best moment in the episode goes to Rachael though, who finally, after everything, gets to play the role of the New Girl, and, in the middle of everyone's crazy fast talking about page 47, says, "Who's Rambaldi?"

what's my counter mission?
