Dispatch from Dutchess County, NY

I'm visiting with the non-crazy part of the family this weekend. This is a place of quiet mornings, reading in bed, late-night movies, and dinners that last four hours because they're packed with so much food and conversation. There are wild turkeys that appear in the back yard, and there are windy roads and most of all, there is just so much time for sitting around.

I've been to three wineries and loaded up the trunk with treasures to take home; I've been outlet shopping and revitalized my sweater collection - amazingly, I'll now have sweaters that are actually somewhat stylish and not just giant chest-shaped balls of yarn. I have hooked a family member on Alias and listened with rapt attention to his tales of watching 12 episodes of Season 3 in one day. (His wife insists on calling Vaughn by his first name, and that delights me for no real reason. She asks, "So, does Michael know his wife is evil yet?") I am right now raiding a younger member of the family's CD collection for his Green Day.

I went through a draft of the Remus/Tonks last night and made some significant moves in the direction of a final draft. I'm thinking a little more attention after dinner and the story will be ready for beta. I really love this story, which is weird for me, because I don't usually get so attached to the things I'm writing. I know when they feel good, and when they start to really come together, but I don't normally feel tenderness towards them.

But there's no time for werewolves and Metamorphmagi now - I have to go help put snow tires on the car.

i'm here to be told, whatever remains however improbable
