Well, I went to talk to the doctor this morning
And here is what she said:
According to the MRI, I have some deteriorating discs, a bulging disc, spinal stenosis and, yes indeedy, a myelomenningocele. That, for you campers who've been keeping score, is when part of your spinal cord bulges out between two vertebrae. I asked the doctor about it, I asked the physical therapist about it... apparently, surgery is the *only* option. I have to see a neurosurgeon. That will happen on the 13th. They offered me an appointment on the 6th, but I am *not* missing WorldCon.
(wanders off, humming, "Jellicle Cats meet once a year....")
(Wanders back)
Anyway, so the answer to what was wrong was, "All of it." Just about every problem that can go wrong with a neck that would not show up on an X-ray has gone wrong. Gah. Anyway, I have to call the chiropracter and let him know just how bad a mess it is. And I guess I have to go get a copy of the report.
Also, the myelomenningocele is apparently something that happens to people with NF1. Funny how it turns out that every big medical issue I have is "something that happens to people with NF1. Double Gah.
NB: When I add my tags, when I type the "d" for "doctors," the first suggestion that comes up is, "daleks." I'm sure there's a deeper meaning there, other than random irony.
