"May your will be done here on earth, just as it is in heaven." (matthew 6:10b)

When I announced my decision that I was going to Lee University the Christians told me “good for you!” because I wasn’t putting myself in a “sinful” party-school environment.

Since when is being “safe” as a Christian acceptable? Since when should our desire to be “cozy” be tolerated?

I did not choose to attend (I’ll tell you more in future entries) a small Christian liberal arts school to be safe and “good.” I’d rather throw up a thousand times.

I do not much care for the label of Christian. I want to go ahead and apologize for all the “Christians” you know who judge you, who discriminate against you and your friends, who are devoted only to one group, who have been angry with you, who have held grudges against you, who haven’t invested their time in wise activity or act or service. I apologize for myself. I apologize for my complacency in my faith at times. I apologize for every “Christian” church, person, group, service, or act that did not show the unfailing love of Christ.

I hope you will understand that we are just human. That’s why we need God. I hope you realize how hard it is to be disciplined, to be obedient. As Christians, we still struggle with this and will the rest of the time we are here on earth.

We are called to something higher. To a higher standard and behavior. And we fail. We shouldn’t be condemning. We should show love. We should be includers, not excluders, able to explain why we believe or feel differently in a way that leaves you respecting them even if your opinion doesn’t change.

Christian’s should not be tolerant of sin, but they should not judge. The church is not teaching us how to do this. But the church doesn’t know anyway does it? It’s made up of misbehaving humans. So let’s quit looking for others to show us how to stand up for righteousness, and let’s look at where we should have been looking all along: at Jesus.

It is a lie to believe that all Christians and churches are 100% wrong and hypocritical due to this fact.

Christianity is in believing that God is perfect, that He created this world and every SINGLE person in this world uniquely. That He longs to have a personal relationship with every SINGLE one of us. That He has standards and wants us to show his UNFAILING love that He shows His children, even though we are so far from perfect. No one is or ever will be.

Christians: it’s only Jesus.

Non-Christians: I’m sorry Christians forget. I’m sorry for everything. I’m sorry. I wish I could look you in your eyes now, or hug you and tell you, or take it all back. But instead, I’ll just leave it here on LJ for all to see, I’m sorry.
