The summer has put stops on my sit at computer time. The summer has/is going by so quickly. I have enjoyed much outdoors and have really enjoyed being a kid with my kids. My house has paid the price. But every time I see the laundry pile, for instance, I just chuckle and recite what people always tell me... your kids don't stay little long enough. I was just telling my sister, Shauna, how fun it is to look at all the pictures of the nieces and nephews and see how far they have come. My kids still are those little kids in my pictures. She remarked that while fun to see how they have changed it also pulls at your heartstrings that your babies are all growed up. I can see how that would be. I shall not regret my summer of wading in the kiddie pool, a lot of every kind of sport (if you know Nicholas), camping, making grasshoppers jump and letting the ladybugs crawl up our arms. Watching and sometimes preventing Owen from eating dirt over and over and STILL not getting that it tastes bad EVERY time. On really hot days escaping to the library to read books and reorganize the shelves for the librarians...thanks to Owen. We have also spent considerable time at Target playing with their selection of toys, bikes, and of course, helmets on those hot days.
Our camping trip was just for two days and one night. We went to the top of Little Cottonwood. The wildflowers were amazing. Nicholas loved the gear. Setting up the tent, getting out all the bedding, flashlights, cooking food, you name it, an adventure. Luckily it didn't get too cold at night, which was my worry for the younguns. We hiked about a mile UP to a lake toting the kids. It felt like Everest hiking like that but it was worth it. Returning from our hike we saw two enormous bull moose hanging out very near the campsite. Did I say they were huge? HUGE! Our keys somehow found themselves locked inside our car with our camp already all packed up inside as well. Our neighbor campers gave us a hotdog cooker/hanger which did the trick. Brad had to mangle the hanger pretty good and I told him to offer the people a couple bucks just because. I do have to say I was still shocked they took the $$. But it was worth it to us...
We celebrated 5 years of marriage with a dinner WITHOUT kids which happens VERY rarely. We both remarked that we forgot what it was like to just talk to each other. We can see why we are encouraged to spend that time together in the Church. Hopefully it will happen a little more so we don't forget we like each other. HA!
