Author's Notes: In which Gerald receives the lowdown from his boss in London, Colonel Enderby. Enderby is my OC, I'm afraid, although he and his boss, Control, are named in honour of characters from John Le Carre's George Smiley oeuvre. "Room 40", of course, was real. If you know which body of water the real Urquhart Castle overlooks, you may have an inkling of the sort of direction this story may be headed in.
