Well, I thought I'd reveal the answers to the movie quotes people didn't guess. And I know everyone will be going "huh?" because that meme was, like, about three years ago, but still. And I wasn't deliberately picking anything obscure to stump people, because with maybe one exception, I don't think these are wilfully obscure. Just a bit elderly maybe, or possibly (without wanting to stereotype), "guy films", some of them. XD
2. "Dyin' ain't much of a livin', boy." - The Outlaw Josey Wales - still Clint's finest hour, the awesomeness still to come notwithstanding, and my nomination for best Western of them all.
4. "Let off some steam, Bennett!" - Arnie in Commando, the film where, according to one review I once read, "He kills more people than WW2". And, yeah, he had just impaled the guy on a steam pipe...er...
5. "I said my compound would take you places. I never said they'd be places you wanted to go." - The Dark Knight - picked because I realised I didn't have any 2000s films on the list and, my, it was quite good.
6. "Broadsword calling Danny Boy..." - Where Eagles Dare - Clint, Richard Burton, a castle full of Nazis who don't realise Clint's not locked up in there with them - they're locked up in there with HIM!! How could it get any better?'
7. "This is God's blade, forged for your black heart!" - Captain Kronos - Vampire Hunter - yeah, a little obscure perhaps - one of the very tail end Hammer films written by the guys behind The Avengers - seek it out!!!
12. "Yeah, let's get sushi - and not pay!" - Repo Man - A film that really defies description - a very, very young Emilio Estevez, Harry Dean Stanton, punks, UFOs, government conspiracies - cf. comments re Where Eagles Dare.
13. "I met her in the hall and she did that to me. Then she tried to sit in my lap while I was standing up." - The Big Sleep - a film it's impossible to see and not be in quiet awe of - it was this or The Maltese Falcon.
14. "What are you supposed to be - some kind of a cosmonaut?" - Ghostbusters - the guy in the lift at the hotel - followed by "We're exterminators." "That's gotta be some cockroach!" "Bite your head off."
15. "I know everything hasn't been quite right with me, but I can assure you now, very confidently, that it's going to be all right again. I feel very much better now. I really do." - 2001: A Space Odyssey - and the line derives much of its general coolness from HAL 9000's reasonable, dulcet tones.
18. "A heathen, conceivably, but not, I hope, an unenlightened one." - The Wicker Man - possibly the very bestest Brit horror movie of all time (if it's not, then it's the original The Haunting or Dead of Night) - Woodward and Lee are magnificent - the Nic Cage remake is made of fail.
19. "Have you ever seen blood in the moonlight, Will? It appears quite black." - Manhunter - while I'm on the theme of remakes, I don't know if this line is in the kinda-remake Red Dragon because I've never seen it.
