Is it just me being a curmudgeon, or is it a bit early to be crowning Jamie Mathieson showrunner-in-waiting just because he wrote two good scripts in a row? Are people that eager to be rid of Moffat? (And before you scoff at my naivety, I do glance at Tumblr from time to time nowadays and know that yes, yes quite a lot of them are

I think it was ''time for a change'' in the sense that it's always ''time for a change'' sooner or later in Who. That is, we already know that no Doctor or companion can stay on forever. But in terms of the show needing ''saving'', well, I'd say it's definitely been ''saved'' from worse. The true main reason I'd like to see the back of Moffat, though, is because I'm afraid he'll just keep bringing back certain characters. Well, that, and I want Gareth Roberts as show-runner, but fat chance of that happening. :P
Besides, I think a change of producer/headwriter is mostly a cosmetic change, in that it won't get rid of the underlying issue which is, well, socio-political, so to speak (I can't help it, it's my education!). ;D
I hope I haven't come across as one of those unreasonable haters, lately btw. If I have, it hasn't been my intention. :)
I'm sorry, I know this isn't a terribly deep comment, but I can't seem to brain today at all. :/
ETA: Sorry about the ETAs.

I think that's definitely true. I don't think there was any pressing reason, other than Matt Smith's desire to move on (which I admit was a big one), why the change had to come then rather than, say, a year later. Still, I'm enjoying the new series and think Capaldi is doing excellent work, so I'm not complaining, exactly, just trying to keep a sense of perspective. dbskyler, above, knows the score, I think.
And I think that's fair regarding changing head writer - the things that are really wrong with "NuWho" are, imho, the things wrong with Anglophone popular culture in the early 21st Century. ;)
And you certainly haven't - I always find your critiques of the series fair and based on reasonable concerns...which is more than you can say for some of the things out there. ;)
