Just decided to start compiling somewhere online all the quotes that I love for various reasons... some are wicked depressing and whatnot... don't judge me... especially not by who wrote them. Sorry if there aren't a lot of happy ones... "happy" songs generally have shitty lyrics and cheery music.
"You love a sinking stone
That'll never elope
So get used to the lonesome
Girl, you must atone some
Don't leave me no phone number there"
Gone for Good - The Shins
This always struck me as a song meant for me from every emotionally unavailable guy I went after.
"It's all I love, It's all I hate.
It's all too much for me to take.
I can't be sure where it begins,
or if the good life lies within"
L.A. Song - Beth Hart
I always listen to this song when I get frustrated and want to leave; when I feel like running away would make everything better. "It's a different place, but the same old thing". It reminds me of struggling with loving someone and knowing that it isn't going to work. I've listened to it on repeat on more than one occasion.
"I open up, you ignore me
You're not the same at all
And if I could turn back the pages of time
I'd rewrite you point of view"
End It On This - No Doubt
Better communication: everyone's wish... even if they don't know it. There are few things more vital to any sort of relationship than both people feeling like they are understood. This idea of losing someone because they change in a way that ruins the tie that you had with them, it's something painful that happens to everyone. That feeling of looking at an old friend and wanting so desperately for them to still be that person.
"But when they're parking their cars on your chest
You've still got a view of the summer sky
To make it hurt twice when your restless body
Caves to its whims
And suddenly struggles to take flight..."
Know your Onion! - The Shins
Supremely depressing, yet clever.
"Lighten up while you still can
Don't even try to understand
Just find a place to make your stand
and take it easy"
Take it Easy - The Eagles
I remember this sticking in my head as a child riding in the car with my dad... this song was always the one I could listen to no matter what was going on... "don't take life to seriously, you'll never get out alive"
"I bet you like to fuck but you love to argue,
Poke a hole into my chest and pull my heart through."
Woman Tonight - Felt
Fucking Awesome... nothing else I can say.
Loiter the whole day through and lose yourself in lines dissecting love."
The Past and Pending - The Shins
"Would you say they find me unstable
'Cause they see me act a little bit different
But I know my way to greener pastures"
Greener Pastures - No Doubt
Forget all the people who judge you.
"Over the ramparts you tossed
The scent of your skin and some foreign flowers
Tied to a brick
Sweet as a song
The years have been short but the days go slowly by
Two loose kites falling from the sky
Drawn to the ground and an end to flight."
Pink Bullets - The Shins
A pretty idea.
"Spring blooms and you find the love that's true
But you don't know what now to do
Cause the chase is all you know
And she stopped running months ago
And all you see is where else you could be when you're at home,
And out on the street are so many possibilities to not be alone"
Your Heart is an Empty Room - Death Cab
The reason having feelings is so scary.
"what good is it to live
With nothing left to give
Forget but not forgive
Not loving all you see"
Swallowed in the Sea - Coldplay
A beautiful attitude, really.
"Mercy's eyes are blue
When she places them in front of you
Nothing holds a roman candle to
The solemn warmth you feel inside
There's no measuring of it
As nothing else is love"
Saint Simon - The Shins
Actually a happy one... well more like a sappy, gooey one.
"the price of a memory is the memory of the sorrow it brings"
Mrs. Potter's Lullaby - Counting Crows
"She says I'm okay; I'm alright,
Though you have gone from my life.
You said that it would,
Now everything should, be all right"
If I Ever Leave This World Alive - Flogging Molly
"Dawn breaks like a bull through the hall,
Never should have called
But my head's to the wall and i'm lonely."
New Slang - The Shins
Ain't that the truth.
"Sorrow drips into your heart through a pinhole
Just like a faucet that leaks and there is comfort in the sound
But while you debate half empty or half full
It slowly rises, your love is gonna drown"
Marching Bands of Manhattan - Death Cab
Damn depressing...
"You'll be damned to pining through the windowpanes
You know you'd trade your life for any ordinary Joe's
Well do it now or grow old
'Cause your nightmares only need a year or two to unfold
Been alone since you were 21
You haven't laughed since January
You try and make like this is so much fun
But we know it to be quite contrary"
Australia - The Shins
Fit so well at a time, feels like re-reading a diary entry.
