The rules: "Comment to this post and I will list seven things I want you to talk about. They might make sense or they might be totally random. Then post that list, with your commentary, to your journal. Other people can get lists from you, and the meme merrily perpetuates itself."
But feel free to ask for a number less than seven, too.
Here's my list from
minervaish:
-what your 8-year-old self would think of the wedding youve got planned for this weekend
-power-struggles in larps
-history, as taught in high school.
1. Well, I don't remember being one of those little girls who was obsessed with 'one day I'm going to get married and my wedding is going to be like this...', but I think that little eight-year-old me would approve of my dress, be delighted that I had a bunch of friends willing to come to a party for me (I did not have many friends as a kid), and be confused/upset that there was not a chocolate cake with chocolate frosting (really, JJ, what's wrong with you), and be dismayed at the variety of foods represented between hors d'oeuvre and actual food (I am living proof that you can survive for years on nothing but peanut butter, pretzles, carrots, and pasta. It wasn't until I went to college - and even more, met
sarrciano, that I might have been coaxed into trying new foods). I find it difficult to imagine that 8 year old me would have been interested in anything past those basics, though. Oh, pretty flowers!
2. Power Struggles in Larps - Hmmm. I wish the meme allowed asking clarifying questions, cause this could have so many different answers. IG power struggles between players? OOG power struggles between players? OOG power struggles between staff members (do NOT want)? The normal things that plot members do to give players stuff to do during events? I guess I'll go for the first two. IG power struggles can be fun... but in my experience, all too often ends up with one winner and one loser, with the winner acting like a schoolyard bully. I wish I was kidding. It's one of the reasons I prefer games without IG PC nobility. It can be exceedingly cool... but sooner or later someone is going to end up a noble that shouldn't be and will use their IG authority to bully whoever they don't like, and there's no good IG way to deal with that. I ended up on the fun end of this as a new player, though, so I might be overly sensitive on the topic.
3. History, as taught in High School - Ha. So, as a caveat, most of my favorite teachers in high school were my history teachers. They were bright, really enthusiastic about their topics, and did their best to really engage us. That said, I had the misfortune to be the victim of a changing curriculum as I moved through the school system. They wanted to change the years in which we studied US History, and they made the change while I was attending school. So we did US history in 7th and 8th grade... and then again in 9th and 10th grade. Then there was world history in 11th grade, and I think comparative religion in 12th? Something like that. And not once did we managed to get past WWII. Nothing important has happened after WWII, right? I am really familiar with the war of 1812, though. :sigh:
4. What got you started as a LARPer?
5. What did you want to be when you grew up?
6. What advice do you have for your 8-year old self?
7. What would be the best vacation ever?
