Busy weekend that just passed.
Friday night
sarrciano and I headed to RH. We knew we were only going to be able to be there 12-14 hours, but figured we'd see people, hang out a bit, and hopefully have some fun.
I didn't do a whole lot, but I spent most of the night hanging out with various people and catching up on stuff (and repeating, many times, "I missed one gather. One. I haven't been gone for years."). Wish I'd gotten to go on a mod or something, but I did have fun just hanging out and not being responsible for anything.
Late in the evening, there was a big encounter/field fight that was extremely cool and had a bunch of us desperately trying to take notes as a group of seven bad guys walked around on a pitch-black field, talking over each other as we tried to write faster. Then came the fun moment when someone decided it was time to jump them, and I bounced off someone's shield as I tried to get clear, given that I was carrying a book and a pen at the time. Then a fun clusterfuck of a field fight followed. Fun times.
We almost got hooked for a mod later, but discovered that the guy hooking it was probably evil, so we didn't go. :( Sad.
Next morning failed at sleeping in, and spent most of the morning hanging out (aside from one hilarious moment where we nearly got ourselves killed five feet from the tavern when a bunch of monsters materialized out of nowhere while we were fighting one of them in sort of a lackadaisical manner). The new duke and duchess arrived right before we left, but they immediately took themselves off to go talk to the nobles and chased off everyone else, so I didn't get much of an impression other than 'the new duchess is a dark elf with awesome clothes who's bitchy towards her staff'.
About noon we left RH, to go to a wedding in NH. Drove northward, picking up
sithlorddarren on the way. We had enough time to stop at our apartment to clean up and get dressed in pretty normal clothes before we needed to leave. Drive was uneventful, except for our fail at finding fast food, and an unfortunate incident with the Dunkin Donuts of SLOW and NO SHIRTS. Ahem.
The location of the wedding was really close to the Endgame site (I got really confused when, after driving for an hour on roads I'd never traveled before, I suddenly recognized a few turns through a town), and had an absolutely gorgeous view of the mountains. Ceremony was also beautiful, out on the lawn, with Alfric in his marine dress blues. :) They just managed to finish everything before it started to rain a bit, and we were all inside when the skies opened up. But they got the important parts in. Yay! Aside from that, we mostly just had fun talking to people that I don't get to see enough of outside of larps.
We left kinda early, cause I was tired from not sleeping the night before and because it was starting to rain more. Drive home was full of lots of driving rain as the hurricane approached.
Honestly, the hurricane was most of a non-issue for us, which is nice. We spent most of the day sitting around, drinking tea/coffee, reading books, watching the wind blow, and futzing with character builds. The internet/cable was down for most of the day, so we were forced to resort to watching anime on dvds. Oh the suffering. The lights flickered a few times, but that was about as bad as it got.
In the evening, we decided that we were no longer going to wait until some parts that we were missing for our bed got shipped to us, and drove out to Home Depot to pick up some make-shifts (also something to fix one of the drawers that made a horrible squealing noise every time you opened it). We got a bunch of stuff, then went back and started putting the bed together. It was going well, until at 7:54, when we realized that we needed some sort of wooden block to rest a few of the legs on. (Our bed has eight legs. Don't judge it.) We jumped back in the car and drove rather quickly back to the Home Depot, which we were pretty sure closed at 8. We arrived exactly at 8PM, as the store was closing, but the woman on duty who is now my hero let us in anyway. We literally ran down the aisles, found what we needed, and managed to get out of there by 8:04. And now we have a real bed, and a non-squeaky drawer. It's the little things in life. (And man is it handy to have someone who's handy with tools and stuff around the house. The squeaky drawer thing wasn't tremendously hard to fix, now that I saw how he did it, but it would never have occurred to me to try to fix it and not just deal with it for the indefinite future.)
So, busy weekend, but had a lot of fun and even managed to get some stuff done. Been a fairly standard week since then. Productive Madrigal staff meeting last night. I need to pack for NPCing MM tonight, which should be a pile of fun, since I'm not 100% sure where all of my larping stuff is among the boxes which are still scattered around the apartment. Oh, and I have a fully functioning car again, which is nice, after the gas leak, broken light, and then other gas leak. Literally for the last week every time I took my car in to get something fixed, something else had broken in the two days between. But it's all fixed now. Yay.
Oh, and the quote of the week, from the guy at the auto repair place when I asked if my car was safe to drive until a part came in. "Yeah, you should be fine. You don't smoke, right?"
