The Aralis event was pretty awesome, and I am saying that despite there being utterly miserable weather for all of Saturday (until about 2:30 in the morning Sunday morning, when it randomly became kinda amazingly awesome and warm), and the fact that I managed to twist my ankle pretty good going up and down the stairs. Way to go, staff.
Random fun things:
- watching Dionne kicking ass on the random rogue-mod we ended up on first thing Friday night (at the bottom of the ocean, because Zerinus is awesome like that), worming her way through the maze of webbing (which I also did a bit of and didn't utterly suck at), and then unlocking a box while cutting it free of a maze of webs with bells on them, without triggering anything. It looked so cool it made me want to learn rogue-things and do them and also be awesome. Probably not going to happen as Fathom, though.
- Potted piggy-corn! (or, alternatively, potted uni-pig!)
- getting to talk to a couple of PCs that I hadn't interacted with much over the course of the weekend. (and, you know, having fun talking to all the people that I always talk to)
- "...and she had them sing, not to the whales, but to the really big whales, who some call dragons. And lo and behold, the dragon whales heard them!"
- watching Sade hanging out in her creepy little corner. (for the record, the corner was not creepy until she claimed it and started lurking there) Also, "Let's go to couch!".
- Fathom and Squint taking turns being each other's weakness. :sigh: (and in one of those incidents, Fathom burning a disengage just to piss off a demon that she otherwise couldn't affect)
- Kaisan giving Fathom the ability to fix armor for the Nioclus fight. So very, very happy (both IG and OOG) to have something to do other than listen to people fighting and dying outside and be miserable. Also... worst plan ever that actually worked.
- realizing that most people in town managed to miss Fathom being deathed in the middle of the Garandi political mess, despite the fact that she was standing in the center of a group of people and the guy threw a death at her from 5 feet away.
- finding out, sort of, what it might be like to have a dedicated backpack as a fighter. Had one fight where an NPC with a lot of healing was quite determined to keep Fathom up, and man it was cool.
- teaching some of the Garandi how to break codes Sunday morning as we sat out in the warm weather. I like code-breaking, and he seemed to be having fun learning it. Was cool. (Oh, and being told by several of them how much they disliked me as I blazed through some of the decoding.)
Fails for this weekend included not being able to remember/use my stats effectively. Like, all weekend was full of me being like, "I am pretty sure I can do more than just swing damage every now and then... but I can't actually manage to remember that at any time when it would be useful." Also, messing up my ankle was aggravating. I just rolled it, like I do somewhat frequently, except that I managed to roll it on the stairs of doom, so the damage was somewhat worse than normal. At least I didn't fall down the rest of the stairs when I fell. It is starting to get better now that I actually got off of it for several hours and applied ice and anti-inflammatories.
After the event ended, people were kind enough to help me with my stuff so I didn't have to walk down the hill again (thank you so much,
dunriver!). I had to leave somewhat faster/earlier than I wanted to, because we were meeting my parents/brother for dinner. My brother was up from NJ for the weekend and wanted to see me (and I wanted to see him), which I only found out on Wednesday, but they were awesome and agreed to meet us at the 99 near the site for dinner. So had a nice dinner with them and got to catch up and see my brother, and then they left and we switched tables to join the group that had come over from the site.
Good times.
