Now that I can't agree to at all. Nintendo > Sega overall, for sure, but Sonic as a character owns the shit out of Mario. Sure, Mario has a much better lifetime track record in terms of game quality -- much better -- but Sonic's got more character and personality in one of his spines than I've ever seen Mario display in his entire gaming career. Super Mario Galaxy is really the first time in a long while where I can remember consciously caring about the character and his plight to take on Bowser and rescue Peach, and that's just because Nintendo did such a bang-up job of making Mario's mission feel truly epic.
It all comes down to what you care about, but game quality and caring about the characters you play are both important factors to me in the end. Thankfully, Sega's a third-party developer now, so I get the best of both worlds: Nintendo's better games, and Sega's better character.
What really sucked was when Sonic games were only available on Sega's systems, which were never really home to many games that piqued my interests besides... well, besides Sonic, I can really only think of the Streets of Rage, House of the Dead, and Virtua Fighter series, and a few other scattershot titles.
Dude im not much of a gamer, but from experience, Mario games have been the better contender. Zelda games are so boring, Final Fantasy 8 is way better than 7, and Pump is the best dance game.
Mio? I wasn't trying to be defensive or anything, I was just talking/debating games like I usually do. Nothing you said offended me or anything. Sorry if I came off defensive.
That said, come on now... Zelda games boring, and Pump better than DDR? That's all just crazy talk. Then again, Zelda's one of my favorite franchises ever and you know I'm a DDR purist, so we'll probably just have to agree to disagree on these points. :P
The Mio thing is a joke amigo :p. But yeah dude Zelda is so effing boring! I played Sonic but didn't like the speedyness. And what I like about PUMP is that it will Never ever be conquered unlike ITG and DDR
I agree with you Ash. My biggest beef with Nintendo's franchises is that as good as their games may be, their characters are practically lifeless and never change as the years go by in terms of personality. Mario is the same plumber that he has been since before I was born, and Link's biggest change so far has been becoming cel-shaded. (And what a mess THAT was...)
Perhaps the biggest reason why I'm so disappointed that Sonic has become so mediocre over the past ten or so years is because I know that he has the potential to be so great. He is such a cool character between his sense of humor and his temperament that it just seems like he's going to waste in lackluster game after lackluster game. By comparison, the Super Mario series has only gotten better as time has gone on, at least in my opinion.
