I pretty much figured out what EVE was looking for 2 minutes after she started scanning things. I don't know why you couldn't figure that out. It's a pretty simple plot to me, so it didn't feel like things took too long to be told to me because I am pretty good at predicting them.
The plant being taken from EVE was not shown because they didn't want you to know to put that element of surprise and confusion into the movie. It doesn't need to make sense in that there was no possible time where the robot could take the plant without us knowing because it's a movie. You're being too critical, it doesn't make sense for a cockaroach to be trained and not die after being crushed either.
oh well I liked the movie a lot and I'm going to own you at smash.
I don't see how you can take EVE scanning things and immediately deduct that she's looking for life on the planet to take back to the Axiom to prompt their return home. With the way that she was liberally blasting everything with her gun, I initially assumed that she was looking for something to destroy

Disney movies aren't meant to confuse people. Especially not smart individuals. Gosh the look my airheaded date had when she walked out. She just laughed at the cute stuff, but didn't understand wtf was going on!
Why where all of them fat? Wtf kind of useless cockroach character was that? Wha happened to the dustorms? Why was the cpt's robot a trader? Why wasn't there more robot sex I mean chemistry? Why the fuck would Disney confuse the simple minds of kids and airheads? Wtf Disney?!?!?!?!
The humans were fat because their entire race had been living in space for 700 years. There was a scene in the film where the captain is listening to a message from the president and the president says something along the lines of "being in space for so long has probably shrunk your bone mass, but a few laps on the treadmill should fix that."
I didn't notice until now that the cockroach was a pretty useless character. Probably there just for comic relief.
The captain's robot was a traitor because it was putting the directions of the president (don't return to earth) over the directions of the captain (return to earth). The president had more authority over the situation, as he was the one that pretty much began BnL's mission to send people to space.
think of the kind of time frames / number of votes we are looking at though:
schindler's list - came out almost 15 years ago, nearly 200,000 votes on IMDb.
wall-e - came out not even a week ago, not even 20,000 votes on IMDb.
it's not surprising that the ranking for the movie, at this time, is probably at the highest point it will ever be. you have to give a reasonable amount of time before more people view it, and the bell curve affect comes into play, producing a more realistic and balanced rating. presumably, the only people rating it at this point in time are those who have seen it within it's first week of release. one would infer that these are the people who were looking forward to the film's release the most, and would hold it in higher regard than your average movie-goer.
and it looks like wall-e has already dropped below schindler's list in the rankings, so what i'm saying is moot, haha.
i really don't know why you had difficulty understanding all these plot elements in the film. everything seemed pretty self-explanatory to me, or if it wasn't, it was easily deduced during viewing
