blizzards, bunco, and by God! I survived this quarter (Almost.)

Mar 08, 2008 08:04

Oh!  How long it's been.  My fingers feel rusty and my on-line journal smells a little stale, if that's possible.  The pace of grad school really picked up this quarter, and though I survived beautifully, I'm a little out of breath.

The reason I'm writing now, at 8am on a Saturday morning, is that there's a thick foot of snow outside standing between me and Las Vegas.  Karthik, Su, and I planned to go out for the National Bunco Tournament (a dice game played by menopausal women).  We were going to roll some dice, play some slots, see some shows, and, if the mood was right, get married.  But my flight got canceled, due to the White Death hitting Columbus.  (If you ask me, "blizzard-like conditions" is a lame reason to cancel a flight.)

Anyway, last night, after I got off the phone with Karthik --who was persuasively conferencing with Southwest and trying to make things work-- I sat at my desk and cried into the sleeve of my sweater.  Looking forward to this trip was sort of what got me through this quarter, and then I end up stuck in Columbus --no dice, no bright Vegas lights, just lots and lots of snow, pinging against my window.  So disappointing. Then, right in the middle of my Pitty Party, I had an image of Karthik speed-walking through the airport with his cowboy hat on.  I laughed out loud, one of the best laughs of my life.  So, I don't get to go to Vegas to throw dice with middle aged women and get married to Karthik.  This is so lame.  But I might find a way to survive this, just like I found a way to survive this frenetic quarter...

And, so far, I have.  I mean, it's only been about 12 hours, but still.  I plan to write more over spring break.  You know, give the general public the appropriate update they (probably don't) want.
