Title: "Because We Are... - Chap 24"
Author: J.J.
Warning: It's an AU BASED ON THE MANGA. It contains some Japanese words, a bit of sappiness...
Notes: Okay, this is born from my obsessive love for seeing Seishiro and Subaru as teenagers interacting together.
Disclaimer:
"Tokyo Babylon" and "X" belong to Clamp. I'm merely using their characters because I love them... especially Seishiro and Subaru...
Ehy, Do I own something here? Oh yes, I own the plot and a sensible heart which would surely break if you give me harsh reviews... so please be honest but nice ok?
Summary: What could happen if a teenager Sakurazukamori is forced to co-habit with a teenager Sumeragi no TouShu?

Hugging time didn’t last enough, Seishiro thought as he and Subaru parted. He saw the boy staring at his own Shikifuku with a troubled expression. Seishiro mentally cursed the fact that all the Sumeragi wore white Shikifuku, perfect, pure, so easily to stain white Shikifuku. Maybe he hadn’t had the brightest idea when he pushed Subaru-kun on the ground but… He heard Subaru-kun sighing resignedly.

“I guess I’ll make Obaachan angry again…” he sighed, his shoulders and head dropping.

“I could just kill her for you,” he offered, knowing he really shouldn’t kill people who aren’t a threat to Japan but believing he could find a way through it. After all the old woman was kind of opposing to the will of the emperor that wanted him and Subaru-kun stuck together and also she made Subaru-kun sad and troubled and that wasn’t good for the Sumeragi no TouShu, was it? It could give him troubles on work and this would be a threat for Japan, wouldn’t it?

Sadly Subaru-kun didn’t seem to be of the same opinion.

“But… but… I don’t want you to kill my grandmother!” he protested, eyes open wide and teary.

“Why not?” he complained feeling a pang of annoyance at the idea Subaru-kun wanted to protect the woman. “It’ll make things simpler…” Subaru-kun didn’t seem willing to agree with him.

“But… but it’s my grandmother and she hadn’t done anything wrong and…”

“Subaru-kun, I’m trying to help here!” he snapped. “She’s the one who hit you before, isn’t she? And she complains if you’re with me. If she’s dead she can’t hit you or complain. It’s the perfect solution! Why can you never appreciate what I do for you?”

“I…” Subaru began then trailed off. The really scary part in that discussion was that really, Seishiro-san was only trying to help… his own way… which usually meant at best Subaru would find himself in even bigger troubles... if he was lucky and in the present case that he… he would… his grandmother… he would… “Seishiro-san… it’s not that I don’t appreciate you trying to help but… but I really don’t want my grandmother to die… and I don’t really like when you kill people…”

“Which is what I do for a living,” Seishiro-san reminded him snappily in his ‘No, I’m not sulking, Sakurazukamori don’t sulk even when they’ve the right to do it’ expression, which Subaru would have found adorable hadn’t been for the problem at hand.

“Seishiro-san… I… I know what you’ve to do, it’s just… I like Seishiro-san a lot but not his work?” he tried to explain lamely. Seishiro-san didn’t look persuaded. Subaru blushed as he hugged him. Tightly. “I really like you, you know…” he whispered sounding truly embarrassed but also truly wishing Seishiro-san would believe him on that. Seishiro-san sighed then embraced him back, stroking his hair gently.

“Well, you’re awful at lying so it must be true…” he observed. “But letting her alive is highly impractical, Subaru-kun.” Subaru said nothing, knowing talking would only cause troubles. Seishiro sighed loudly, as if to imply Subaru-kun was asking a really ENORMOUS sacrifice from him. “Well if it’s SO important for you I might not kill her… if you really, really, REALLY think she needs to be left alive…”

“Please?” Subaru-kun asked him in that puppy tone that made impossible to refuse his requests.

“Well, then I’ll let the old hag live,” he stated grumpily before stroking his cheek against Subaru’s causing him to blush deliciously. “We’ll think at something else then. Actually I think your very resourceful boyfriend has already the perfect plan!”

“Really?” Subaru-kun asked hesitantly. “Is it… not going to hurt someone, is it?”

“Subaru-kun, you’re adorable but so very hard to please! Anyway everyone will keep his head on his neck and his heart in his chest, will this satisfy you?” he offered and smiled pleased when the boy nodded in reply. “Good, then let’s start working on my plan!” Seishiro stated as he dragged Subaru-kun along.

“Subaru-kun, why the gloomy face NOW? It worked wonderfully and nobody noticed your Shikifuku wasn’t perfectly clean, not even your grandmother!” Seishiro complained once they were at home. He saw Subaru-kun looking at him uneasily.

“Yes but… but I don’t think to activate all the sprinkles pretending there was a fire was a good idea… the guests were all wet and… and Obaachan too and…” he began nervously, gaze firmly on the ground.

“And wasn’t her outraged face totally priceless?” Seishiro asked still grinning at the memory as he began to undress.

“Seishiro-san! That’s my grandmother you’re talking about!” Subaru-kun protested with an adorably outraged expression, his gaze still stubbornly set on the ground. Seishiro blinked as he stared at him. Really, he had no idea why but that evening each time he looked at Subaru-kun he seemed so adorable he had to wonder if his eyes were playing tricks on him or if he was hallucinating. A person couldn’t always look adorable despite wearing different expressions, could he?

Seishiro walked closer to him and forced Subaru-kun to raise his face to meet wide green eyes.

“Se-Seishiro-san! You-you’re half undressed!” the boy stammered.

“Well, no matter how gorgeous I am in a Shikifuku, I still think it doesn’t do as suitable night clothes…” he observed. “Don’t you agree, Subaru-kun? You don’t plan to sleep like this, do you?” he teased.

“I…”

“It’s not fair when you’re so adorable looking all the time, Subaru-kun,” he pointed out seriously, trapping him in his arms. “It’s like you were trying to tease me, showing me something delicious and then denying me any chance to taste it.”

“I… I’m doing nothing as such!”

“Then can I taste you to my heart content?” Seishiro asked smiling innocently.

“Seishiro-san!” Subaru-kun protested, squirming in his grasp, but not that much that he would have needed to get himself free.

“Besides didn’t we decide you need to practices kissing me? So you won’t complain to me anymore that you’ve no experience?” Seishiro went on, snuggling against Subaru-kun.

“We didn’t decide this at all!” Subaru-kun stated, flushing even more.

“Oh well, then I figure this means just I decided so,” Seishiro admitted with a sigh. “But really, Subaru-kun, would you pass up the chance?”

“You… you’ll make it sound like this was all just a stupid game…” Subaru-kun protested, lowering his gaze grumpily, unhappily and, if Seishiro were to be honest, he should have admitted he was actually dealing with the thing as if it was a game… though… not a stupid one. Only Seishiro didn’t particularly like to be honest and so he just rolled his eyes.

“I was trying to be helpful here but fine, have it your way, I’m not interested, I’m going to bed,” he stated as he let go of Subaru-kun and finished undressing then grabbing hastily his pyjama pants and wearing them, stubbornly deciding not to wear the shirt. If Subaru-kun had problems with him sleeping half naked, well, too bad for him. “And hurry up to undress, shut down the lights and get in bed!” he ordered snappily. Subaru said nothing as he grabbed his pyjamas and left the room, evidently refusing to change in the same room as Seishiro. Subaru-kun could be so stubborn and childish sometimes… He groaned when it became obvious Subaru-kun was taking too long and got up to get him. He found the boy in his pyjamas, curled up on the couch and felt even more annoyed.

“What are you doing here? You don’t plan to sleep here, do you?” he asked snappily. Subaru-kun sighed before shaking his head and saying quietly he was sorry. But he made no movement to get up so, after considering if he should just grab him for his arm and drag him in the bedroom and deciding maybe a tamer approach would work better, it was Seishiro who sit down. “What are you sorry about now?” he asked without sounding really interested.

“I… can’t think or see or feel things… the way you think, see and feel them,” Subaru tried to explain. “It’s… unfair toward you because I know you don’t mean any harm but…”

“… but you perceive it as such,” Seishiro-san finished for him. “I know. It’s stupid but you’re made like that and…”

“… and I end up hurting you instead,” Subaru stated, fists clenching in frustration. Seishiro-san threw his head back and laughed out loud.

“You hurting me? Do you think I care what you do?” he asked with mild humour.

“I make you angry. Or irritated. Maybe that’s not quite like hurting you but it’s unpleasant, isn’t it? But if I don’t… it’s like I were lying to you. Pretending it’s okay when it’s not… pretending I agree when I don’t… is like lying, isn’t it?” Subaru observed. Seishiro-san stared at him then pulled him close, wrapping his arms around him.

“Sometimes I don’t know why I put up with you, Subaru-kun…” he mumbled stroking the boy’s hair. “You’re so complicate…” … but he was also the only person Seishiro knew that would go to such length for him. That would be honest with him no matter what. That would worry for him no matter what. It made him precious and extremely frustrating at the same time. Like now for example. He was letting himself be cuddled obediently, going so far as to curl against Seishiro like a kitten in search of affection, without complaining at all for what Seishiro had just said. Wasn’t it hard for him too to put up with Seishiro? Hadn’t he just said he couldn’t understand him though he had at least tried to do so? So why wasn’t he complaining it was all Seishiro’s fault? “Shouldn’t you say the same, Subaru-kun? That you don’t know why you put up with me?”

“I know why,” the boy said quietly.

“Emperor’s orders, huh?” Seishiro offered. Not really satisfying but, effectively, it wasn’t like they had any other choice and…

“Nope. I just… think it’s worth it. Because you also make me happier than anyone else… just being yourself… and I’d like to do the same though… I’m not good at it and…”

“But I also make you sadder than anyone else, don’t I?” Seishiro pointed out.

“Yuko-san would say… that’s the price. Everything you get must always come to a fair price. To be able to make me so happy… you also have to be able to make me so sad or it wouldn’t be fair and…”

“It’s a stupid reasoning,” Seishiro stated. “What makes you sad wouldn’t necessary also make you happy as a payback so why what make you happy should also make you sad? It’s unfair! What makes you happy should only make you happy,” he declared. He didn’t like that reasoning. He didn’t like that reasoning at all because it would mean for all the nice things Subaru-kun gave him he would have to pay putting up with frustration and annoyance and he didn’t feel like paying at all.

“I… don’t understand well how it worked,” Subaru admitted. “Yuko-san said if we were only to be happy than that happiness would have no real value but… I’d like if you could be always truly happy and that happiness have value. Though Yuko-san said no man can always be happy but I’d like…” he trailed off as Seishiro-san picked him up.

“I’m carrying you to bed now. It’s late and you should stop talking with this Yuko-san’s person if she can’t give you advices about how to be always happy,” the other boy stated snappily. “Forget about her.”

“Seishiro-san… are you still angry?” Subaru asked quietly as Seishiro-san put him to bed. Seishiro-san shrugged.

“I’m not the kind of person who would get angry for something so silly,” he stated, though he didn’t sound very sincere. “Since we can’t kiss hot and passionately yet do I get the right to a good night kiss at least?” he asked and Subaru blinked as he stared at him.

“A good night kiss?” he echoed.

“It’s innocent! The kind of things mothers does with their children! It’s just a good night kiss nothing more!” he insisted. He showed his good will lowering his requests so couldn’t Subaru-kun be compliant for once? “Never mind, forget it, tonight you’re impossible, Subaru-kun,” he stated and felt utterly confused when he felt Subaru-kun’s lips brushing his cheek. He turned to look at the other boy who looked completely red and wondered why with Subaru-kun the most innocent things were as awkward as only the dirtiest ones should be. It was just a mere brushing of lips on his cheeks, his mother had done to him much more, so why it made him feel so… strange, as if he was embarrassed too?

“Have I… done it wrong?” Subaru-kun asked meekly.

“No, it’s just… my turn, I suppose,” Seishiro replied as he slowly moved closer.

“Your turn? Ah… hum…” Subaru-kun stammered as he blushed even more and closed his eyes and like that it felt really awkward, as if they were doing something really, really hot and… and he brushed back Subaru-kun’s hair and kissed his forehead gently, resting his lips against the soft skin and trying to figure out why it felt different from everything else he’d ever done. It was stupid, it was just an innocent kiss and yet it felt like _more_.

They laid down in silence afterward, staring at each other, Subaru-kun still blushing.

“Subaru-kun? Do I get another?” he asked after a while. “It wasn’t fair before, you did it on surprise, just another huh? Then I promise I won’t bug you anymore.” Subaru-kun stared at him in another pause of awkward silence then moved closer and, as Seishiro had done to him, pushed back Seishiro’s fringe and kissed him on his forehead. So sweet… so delicious, even better than a chocolate cake. The sweetest thing he ever felt. They stared at each other again when they parted then Seishiro just pulled Subaru-kun close and buried his face against Subaru-kun’s chest. He didn’t understand this at all and was tired to think at it. Subaru-kun’s arms circled him gently, his hand stroking Seishiro’s hair soothingly. It felt good. He wondered if one day he would get why only Subaru-kun could make the smallest things feel so good… but he didn’t really had the time to think at it much as he was quickly asleep.
