Title: "Because We Are... - Chap 17"
Author: J.J.
Warning: It's an AU BASED ON THE MANGA. It contains some Japanese words, a bit of sappiness...
Notes: Okay, this is born from my obsessive love for seeing Seishiro and Subaru as teenagers interacting together.
Disclaimer:

Summary: What could happen if a teenager Sakurazukamori is forced to co-habit with a teenager Sumeragi no TouShu?
The following two days went on in a deceptively calm manner. Seishiro remained around Subaru-kun. The boy didn’t dare to ask him again for his presence or his help but his eyes were always on Seishiro and, despite still not daring to reach for him, he was fast to go to him if called. They didn’t talk much, they just remained close. Somehow fussing over Subaru-kun helped Seishiro to relax. Actually, only if he were to fuss over Subaru-kun he could relax. He had no idea why. Subaru-kun wasn’t making any question.
Sometimes Seishiro would just stare at him and Subaru-kun would stare back, as if he was trying to figure out what the other boy was thinking.
“You could leave your Ichimon,” Seishiro said one day out of the blue. “I could keep you. I would treat you well,” he offered and sounded very much as a kid talking of a pet.
“I know,” Subaru replied overlooking all the times Seishiro-san made him cry. After all Seishiro-san was considering him a pet now and not a pillow. It should be an improvement. “But that’s not a decision I can make,” he replied quietly. “I belong to my family. I’m not allowed to be anything else but the Sumeragi no TouShu.”
“You don’t want it,” Seishiro-san countered, sounding irritated.
“It’s not a matter of wanting. It’s my duty to remain with the Sumeragi,” the boy replied with a sigh.
“If you weren’t the strongest Sumeragi anymore…” Seishiro-san’s hold around him tightened, his gaze almost burning through Subaru. “If I were to cripple you permanently or something… they would have to pass the title to someone else. You could donate them some sperm for reproduction purpose and stay with me. I would treat you well, really. You won’t have to worry,” he insisted obviously overlooking the fact that he was just threatening to maim Subaru. Subaru stared at him, he so wanted to say something, anything. He didn’t care about the price he wanted to be with Seishiro-san forever and had no idea why. He doubted that insane and unreasonable need he had for the other was what the emperor was looking for when he had paired them together.
He never managed to answer as the bell rang and they both turned toward the door.
Seishiro-san eyed it suspiciously, his hold around Subaru tightening immediately as Subaru moved to go to open it.
“Don’t,” he ordered curtly.
“Whoever is… knows we’re here,” Subaru stated. He could feel power out of the door, an huge one very similar to Seishiro-san’s and he was sure someone with such power would feel him as well.
Seishiro-san stared at him. Subaru forced an encouraging smile despite feeling rather scared. In his state he had troubles standing. He doubted he could fight someone. He would be of no help to Seishiro-san. But he would try just the same. Seishiro-san shrugged, as if to say he wasn’t afraid to open, that it would do no difference to him and stood. Subaru stood as well, even if with some difficulty.
“Stay here. You can barely stand anyway,” Seishiro told him, ruffling his hair. Actually he didn’t want to leave Subaru-kun there but he needed to have his hands free and therefore he couldn’t allow himself to carry him in his arms.
“I’ll manage,” the boy stated firmly. Seishiro stared at him then shrugged. If Subaru-kun didn’t know what was better for him he wasn’t going to teach him.
He knew who he would see on the door, he knew before opening it but anyway, seeing again his mother after believing he had gotten rid of her was… unpleasant. He smiled charmingly anyway as he greeted her.
“Kaasan. What a pleasure to see you. We weren’t expecting your visit, were we, Subaru-kun?” he said calmly and even if he turned toward Subaru-kun all his senses were on her. Subaru-kun bowed in her direction respectfully.
“Pleased to meet you, Sakurazuka-san. Would you like to come inside? We would be honoured to have you for dinner… if you’re free that is…” the boy said with a gentle smile and all Seishiro was able to think at that was ‘You’re completely nut, Subaru-kun. You don’t invite in the Sendai Sakurazukamori’. But, of course, Subaru-kun was the type who would do just that.
“So rumours are true and the young Sumeragi no TouShu is really a very polite, young boy,” Seishiro’s mother commented smiling broadly and Seishiro had to move to let her step inside. As she walked in he tried to consider his options. Tenno-Heika had forbidden him to kill her, he guessed he could plea self defence… but in that case she should attack him first, he should manage to survive at the attack and then kill her off. Of course it would be simpler if she would attack Subaru-kun first but… he glanced at the limping boy that was smiling at her and doing her best to be polite as he lead her inside.
No.
She weren’t to touch him. Subaru-kun was _his_.
In that moment his mother glanced back at him and he did his best to hid that glimpse of possessiveness smiling back at her.
“You’re grown so silent, Seishiro!” she protested petulantly. “Is he always so quiet, Sumeragi-kun?”
“Ah… hum… I fear it’s my fault for monopolizing the discussion,” Subaru-kun stammered, taking responsibility for Seishiro’s silence even if he wasn’t really the one monopolizing the discussion. That was entirely Seishiro’s mother’s job.
“Oh. Do you think so as well, Seishiro?” she asked him.
“Kaasan, I’m still trying to get used to the vision of your beauty. I’ll say something more intelligent when I’ll recover. You seem to have grown even more beautiful than I remembered,” he said, careful to sound totally honest. His mother giggled and he caught Subaru-kun glancing at him, as if pained, and felt annoyed by the whole mess. He’d been the one who invited her in, he should expect to pay consequences.
“So flattering…” she commented. “So, Sumeragi-kun, did you two manage to become good friends?”
Subaru-kun glanced again at him at that, a quick sad glance then smiled even if his eyes were lowered.
“We’re classmates,” he replied calmly, as if that could sum up all their relation. Seishiro thought it wasn’t a fitting summary but he wouldn’t have known what to add.
“Kaasan, please, make yourself comfortable in the living room while Subaru-kun and I will prepare dinner,” he said. The woman frowned. Subaru-kun hesitated only a moment before speaking up.
“If you want I could…”
“Subaru-kun, on your own you barely know how to heat up instant ramen,” Seishiro stated, trying to keep his tone light. “You obviously need me to help you,” he added, grabbing Subaru-kun’s arm and pulling him into the kitchen. Subaru followed him and, once they were alone, Seishiro slammed him against the wall.
“What are you trying to do, getting us both killed?” he hissed through clenched teeth. Subaru swallowed, trying to stop himself from crying and tried to held his ground.
“Did we have another option? Would have she left otherwise?” he asked, looking straight at Seishiro-san. He liked that situation even less than him but…
For a moment Seishiro’s frustration at Subaru’s words was high enough he thought to hit him. The boy was right but Seishiro didn’t have to like it. Then, as Seishiro was still looking at him furiously he felt Subaru-kun’s hand resting on his. It was so rare to have the boy initiate contact it froze Seishiro on the spot.
“I’m sorry, Seishiro-san… I can’t do anything to help you…” the boy said softly and Seishiro hugged him tightly, burying his face against Subaru-kun’s shoulder. His Subaru-kun, the only one who was always kind to him.
“Just stick with me and never stay on your own with her, okay? There was a reason if the Sakurazukamori killed his predecessor before,” he told Subaru-kun.
The whole evening went on in a way that reminded Seishiro of a farce. Here they were, he and Subaru-kun, playing the role of polite hosts while his mother was playing the one of the guest, Subaru being the only one who was being himself in it, which meant he was being extremely polite, depressed and very easy to fluster and embarrass. It would have been cute if Seishiro had been in the mood to look at it. Then… then she finally said it was time for her to leave. He hadn’t been able to believe it at first, it was too good to be true then reality dawned on him. She had come just for a first inspection, a check in before doing her job. It wouldn’t end with that visit. She would return. He was so screwed…
They saw her out and before leaving she jokingly asked Subaru-kun to take care of him. He was about to reply, in a equally joking tone, he could take care of himself when Subaru-kun anticipated him.
“Yes, Sakurazuka-san, be sure I’ll do it,” the boy said firmly, confidently, as if assuring her whoever were to try to harm Seishiro would have to go through him first. That confident reply surprised both him and his mother, stunning them to silence for a second before she smiled that deceptively gentle smile that promised nothing good and replied an ‘I hope so,’ that clearly implied she was going to make troublesome for Subaru-kun to keep his word.
“Be sure of it,” Subaru-kun insisted calmly. Seishiro gazed at him in confusion, then with relief, felt the door clicking close. For a moment the world felt… unreal, confusing, the tension he’d been left him for all the night falling violently on him. “Are you well?” Subaru-kun asked looking at him with concerned eyes and he roughly pushed him against the wall and pinned him there.
“You… what were you trying to do? Making me look weak? I don’t need your protection! It’s you who almost got raped not me! Have you got it?” he yelled angrily. Subaru-kun just stared at him, for once not looking even scared. Seishiro shook him as if this would help the concept to sink. “Have you got it, you stupid kid?” he shouted even louder. “What I’ve to do to make it sink in your stupid head, hit you?” Subaru-kun smiled, a sad little smile.
“I won’t let her hurt you,” he repeated. “I know there’s little I can do but… I won’t let her just the same but… it’s okay if you want to hit me. It’s okay. If it makes you feel better… it’s okay… I only want you to be happy…”
Insane, Seishiro thought. This boy was insane. Or a masochist. Or…
‘I only want you to be happy…’
Happy… He clung to Subaru-kun all of sudden, holding him so tightly it had to hurt. Subaru-kun hugged him back, gently, caressing his hair soothingly.
“I won’t let her hurt you, Seishiro-san, I promise…” the boy whispered soothingly. Seishiro-san laughed, a strained laugh that bordered on hysteric and Subaru wondered what that woman had done to… to reduce Seishiro-san in that state.
“You… you won’t let her… and how do you expect to stop her? How?” the boy asked.
“I’ll do it. Be sure of it,” Subaru stated firmly. “Seishiro-san is precious. No one is allowed to hurt him or make him unhappy.”
Seishiro looked at Subaru-kun at that, his hold loosening. He seemed so sure… so sure when he himself had no idea how to stop her…
“I’m tired, Subaru-kun. Let’s go to bed,” he said beginning to pull the boy toward the bedroom. Subaru-kun made no resistance as he limped toward it obediently. Seishiro didn’t bother to change or to let Subaru-kun change… he just pulled the boy on the bed and covered them both before wrapping his arms around him and holding him close, trying not to think. He didn’t want to. He felt Subaru-kun caressing his hair, soothingly, the gentle action lulling him to a dreamless sleep.
