There was an opinion column in the Globe yesterday that started off whining about how Mayor Menino has declared war on cars, apparently by taking away parking spaces to make spaces for taxis, loading zones, Hubway bikes, etc. I didn't get very far into it because I had no sympathy.

First, parking in Boston has always sucked. There is no sudden, giant conspiracy to remove the formerly plentiful parking.

Second, it sounded an awful lot like the whining of a priveleged person who, upon experiencing a slight reduction in privelege, believes it to be an outright attack upon himself and his RIGHTS.  Similar to some Christians who complain it's against their religion to allow others to have abortions, or white people who think Affirmative Action promotes incompetent people of color specifically so as to harm better qualified whites.  Cars have recieved special programs, rights, and subsidies for decades, and now that other modes of transport get some of the largess, people attached to their car deem it unfair.
