Falling
dongjun/you.
pg / 510w.
You pressed your head against the bus window, staring blankly at the streets that were a blur. Tears threatened to fall from your eyes, causing you to move your head in a way that it covered your face from the few other passengers.
What would he be thinking now?
You remembered his face - the look in his eyes, when he was caught. The girl in his arms, in every way perfect - you had thought, turned around. A slight smirk played on her lips as you stared back at them in disbelief. You ran - with no idea where you were headed for, and ran. You stopped when you thought that if you ran anymore, your heart was going to explode. But it doesn’t matter anymore, right? Being dead can’t be worst than feeling like this. You found yourself a bench and pulled your legs close to your chest, tears wetting the knees of your jeans.
When it got dark, you regretted the fact that you had run somewhere that you had no idea of. You crossed a road, looking down at the tar. The streetlamps had shone upon it, illuminating bits of the tar that shimmered like stars. A flash of light appeared from the right, followed by a squeal of tyres. Instinctively, you pressed your eyes shut and clenched your fists.
”Miss, are you okay?”
You opened your eyes to a man coming out of his car and realized the car was inches away from you and felt your fingers trembling. You nodded, moving away from the car and quickly down the street. You remembered how you met Dongjun, crossing the road. You were so caught up in all the things that were in your mind that when a car came straight at you, there wasn’t enough time to respond. He was, too, crossing the street and had grabbed your arm, pulling you out of the way. You were too shock to do anything other than stare but he had an arm around you, steadying you and eyes that were filled with concern.
”Are you okay?”
”I’m Dongjun, by the way."
You couldn’t sleep; the memories had flooded your mind. You sat up and looked out the window. There he was. Tears brimmed your eyes as you quickly turned away.
Please?
You stared at your phone, wiping your eyes with the sleeves of your pajamas. You trudged down the stairs and out on to the porch, where he sat. You moved hesitantly to sit down, creating a space between both of you.
Give me your hand.
When you didn’t move your arm, he reached for it, moving over closer. Instead of intertwining fingers like he had always done, he turned your hands palms up on his lap and wrote the letters S - O - R - R - Y with his index finger. He wrote each letter slowly, as if drawing the lines on your palm. When he finished the last letter, you glanced up at him. He looked right into your eyes and nodded, smiling, the smile that you fell for.
