Some Progress...I suppose
How many days is it til the 4th of July? ... I probably don't want to know. I think I have everything I need to make this costume now. My pants and belt pouches arrived last Friday. I love the gun holster but the other pouches will need to be reinforced so they'll maintain their shape and of course cut from the horrible rubber belt rubbies has them on. Otherwise I am pleased with the pouches.
The shirt as yet to be started. I've been trying to do some tests but the machine is not sewing nice stitches like I want and the arms haven't been laying right since there is not set in sleeve. The sleeves tend to create an unwanted like going up from the pit to the shoulder. I've seen this on the Senatorial Leia dresses which are also attached to the bodice, but Padmes does not do this. I'm think it might be the pattern but any suggestions or thoughts on this would be greatly appreciated. :)
The boots are going to be the most difficult part of this costume. They'll either make or break me. The boots I want to use are some I was going to get rid of. They are kind of a orangish tan, clay color (if that makes any sense lol) I of course have to paint them bone. The problem is, they are suede. I went to the dance shop and bought paint in a bone color and I am hoping it will color the boots.
I bought bone colored vinal at Hancocks and shin guards from Walmart. What I am planning on doing is tearing apart the shin guards and just using the pad that comes in them. I'll cut out large rectangles for the rectangles in the boots which do NOT have the strip running through them. I'm hoping to make the vinal cave in to give it that look which I'm obviouslly having trouble describing. If this doesn't work then I'll just cut out the rectangle in the vinal and glue another peice underneith. That is my back up plan though. lol.
I've made a pattern for the armbands. I cut rectangles out, eight total out of drying tape to see what it would look like. Tonight I'm going to cut the metal out and try to see what it looks like. I haven't figured out what I'm going to do to attatch it though. Might just use duck tape.
