Mars Attacks Review!!!
SYNOPSIS: Martians come to Earth and begin to destroy the world in this spoof of 1950's science fiction films.
ANALYSIS: I'm not going to sit here and pretend this is a serious movie. I'm not going to list all the name celebs in this one, nor am I going to list the movies Mars Attacks! pays homage to/rips off. In fact, this is probably going to be a bit short and not as deep as normal.
This movie goes through quite a bit to set up different sets of characters across the country: Las Vegas, Washington, the White House and follows their individual stories. The problem with that is you have to wrap up all their stories at the end. Either by killing them off (more than a fair number of folks do die here) or resolving their storyline. And all that takes time. Plodding, tedious time. That's really my only problem with Mars Attacks. The Martians are defeated in the end and there's still another (seemingly) 20 minutes of movie. No point. If you can enjoy farce and spoof, dive in. Tim Burton, Nicholson, Close, Portman, Grier, Tom Jones...hell, go check out the imdb page. Count how many names you recognize.
