I don't think we'll ever see flying cars because the whole traffic management aspect, and imagine how insane accidents would be, especially in populated areas. Still it's a quaint hope as this image relates to the optimism of everyday life in the future. Funny how mobile phones, internet, wifi, google, ipads, ... were never truly conceived before their time (with notable exceptions). For one, in Kubrick's 2001, the astronauts are watching thin portable tvs, which are totally akin to the ipads today. Seems he wasn't far off the mark on that one.
