Hey, it's Emma -- Petek directed me to this because I was the one that added her background image and changed her comment links. The easiest way to do these things (that I know of) is to have your journal in S1, which is controlled by overrides. To put your journal in S1, you just go to "Manage, Customize", switch it to S1, and click "Modify Journal."

It looks like your LJ is in Generator right now, so under "Page Layout Style" you should select Generator. Under "Color Theme" you should select "Custom Colors", and from there you can type in whatever colors you want for your layout. You can do this by typing regular colors (i.e. "Black") or by typing in the hex code for each color.

Next, you go to the Override Box to type in the HTML codes for your background image and your comment links. These are the codes you should copy and paste into the box:

To Add a Background Image:
GLOBAL_HEAD<=

<=GLOBAL_HEAD

Background-Color: Just put whatever color you want to be the background of the page. This will probably be covered by your background image. You can just write the color, or you can put it in the form of a Hex code.
Background-Image: Put the URL of your image once you've uploaded to a host that allows direct-linking (like Photobucket)
Background-Repeat: This determines whether or not you want the background image to repeat itself across the page. If you want it to repeat horizontally, you can put "repeat-x". If you want it to repeat vertically, you put "repeat-y". If you don't want it to repeat at all, you put "no-repeat." If you want it to repeat both horizontally and vertically you can just delete the whole "background-repeat" line because it will do it by default.
Background-Attachment: If you want your background image to stay in place while your text scrolls over it (like Petek's journal), you type in "fixed." If you want your background image to just be a header and to scroll along with the text, you can just delete the whole "background-attachment" like because it will do that by default.
Background-Position: This is where you can determine where on the page the background is. The easiest way to do this is just to type "center top" or "left top" or something to that effect, where the first word controls the horizontal position and the second word controls the vertical position. You can also type it in terms of percentages of the page (i.e. 20% 60%) or by pixels (i.e. 100px 0px), or you can use a combination of these (i.e. 400px top).
