Matt,

I'm not going to fight city hall on the blue jeans issue. I have so many clothes in my wardrobe that it is of no concern. Whatever Wal-Mart wants me to wear, I'll comply. It's a really fun job and I don't want to taint it. I guess I didn't mention it before, but I am in the Sporting Goods Dept. They hired me almost on the spot because they were desperate to have someone that is skilled in firearm and ammo sales. Today was my third day and I'm having a ball, so I'll just grin and wear tan jeans instead of blue. I worked for the Government for 32 years and my "dress code" changed many times during that career. Back I the days when I was working on Tomahawk Cruise Missile in Albuquerque, NM I was allowed to dress any way I wanted. Shorts were OK and I didn't even have to wear a shirt if I didn't want to. And since I was living there for a while in my own apartment adjacent to the Air Force Base, my weekends were spent in Speedos and sneakers (and lots of sun tan oil!). By the time I transferred to Dahlgren, VA the dress code changed to office "dress", dress shirt, necktie and jacket, so obviously I can roll with the punches!

I really do hope you can wear the suit I mentioned. It happens to be one of best I own. It is a nice Taupe (grayish tan) color with muted multicolor pinstripes. I DID wear it to church on Palm Sunday and Fairlee even commented that she thought it was one of the best looking suits I own. Unfortunately as I already mentioned, I can't button the jacket. I think you are probably thicker and more muscular in the chest than I am, but that shouldn’t be a problem because at your age you probably also have a nice flat stomach so you should be able to wear the suit jacket and vest with no problem. The slacks won’t be an issue either, except we may need to have the legs shortened a bit. We won' know for sure though until you try it on. I really hope you can wear it to church with us, but if you can't, don't worry. I have a ton of other dress clothes you can borrow if needed to meet your dress requirements for church or job interviews. Ditto for dress shirts. I am sure you are very close to me in size on dress shirts, so we've got you covered. Want to make sure you make a really good impression if you decide to go to work during your studies at UNCC.

Be sure to bring your new Wranglers with you. We need to make sure they pass the test for the "TEXAS" Good Housekeeping seal of approval. By the time you have been in Charlotte a few months, we'll have you driving a pickup and shootin' guns at the range. We'll make a "country boy" out of you yet! Guns, Wranglers, Pickup Trucks and Texas Brisket. What a way to live.

On the other side of the the sporting goods issue, I am hoping to get enough cash together to go bike riding, maybe with you when you come down. Right now I could not begin to keep up with you. Two reasons for that: (1) A big age difference and (2) the only bike I own is a "Boardwalk Cruiser", one speed with a coaster brake. This is the first place I've lived in many years that I have had a place suitable for riding so I am motivated now to buy a new bike. I have my eye on one in Wal-Mart, a 26" Schwinn Trail bike, with spring suspension. It costs about $240.00, not much compared to what I paid for new "TREK" bikes for my grandsons.

Take Care and see you soon,

Rod
