TOKYO 'EFFIN JIHEN.
1. JESUS I'm listening to Tokyo Jihen's (you've probably seen them as "東京事変" here every now & then) new album, Sports & holy crap, it's so good. I've only listening to the first song & am a couple of minutes into the second song but I've missed this. Maybe it's because I haven't been listening to much TJ lately and I've been deprived of it. Maybe it's because I've been listening to a lot of jazz, blues, and folk lately and I'm just always always always completely caught off guard by this group. Every time I listen to them, I'm always surprised how they can come out with new stuff that doesn't sound like their older stuff. Gosh, this group is so good.
2. Because I love Tokyo Jihen so much... the only things I can say about these two songs are OMFG THE PIANO PARTS
There's actually another recording of this song that I prefer - it's still played this way, but it's at a different venue. Regardless, the piano counter-melody during the chorus? It kills me so much; Commie Hair, you are the man.
I love this song so much, it's probably one of the top 5 for me. I love how into it they all are - the drummer is probably my favorite to watch here. He's like a little kid in a candy shop! Plus, piano part piano part piano part. Fuck I love this group.
3. OMG. Apolo Anton Ohno & J.R. Celski reppin' the halfsies! Ohno's half-Japanese & Celski's half-Filipino. And they're both cute. And if you know me, all I can say is... IKR?!
