'Every breath we drew was Hallelujah.'
[fantastic.]

As I take a break from iconning, I remembered that I haven't updated about my weekend.

Shit, it was amazing. Friday was the most random shit ever, went to Mitsuwa with Steph, Perry, Jonathan, Erwin, Matt, & Joe C. for some ramen. Perry went back to the valley, me & Steph went to Diddy Riese, while everyone else went with Erwin to his dentist appointment, still not sure if he did make it, haha. Then we all met up with Perry & Anne in the valley & went to Castle Park, wtf random, while Joe C. & Erwin dropped off Matt. Funniest shit ever, at Castle Park, me & Steph were playing this shooting game - it's kinda like the Jurassic Park game, & we had to go to the cave temple or whatever it was called & I was like OMFG TEMPLE OF DOOM. Btw, this game is ridiculous, we had to shoot giant bugs. It was called Let's Go Jungle! Funny though, we had a blast playing...I kept screaming 'DIEEE MOTHERFUCKERRRRR!!!'

& then we went to Joe Humpay's house (random, again) & we sat there for a while, watching Erwin & Joe H. play Rainbow Six. Joe C., Perry, & Anne left. Then me, Steph, Jonathan, Joe H., & Erwin were waiting for Mark to show up, then we went to KFC (random, again) & then went to Brent's house. More random. We just chilled there for hours.

But hands down, Saturday was the best day & night of my summer. Well, it's only just begun, but still. I went to the band concert & saw many old band friends. All good stuff. Found out some pretty interesting things about someone that just shocked the SHIT out of me, but I'm not as surprised at Sylvia was when I told her. Hehe.

But OMFG. The Beirut concert. Ah, so amazing. The first band was okay, Devon Williams band. I loved the second band, The Brunettes. They're from NZ & lemme tell you, so many instruments on that stage, it was a good opening act for Beirut. Although I was disappointed that the one guy played a VALVE TROMBONE. Ugh, such a disgrace to trombones. They kept pimping their CDs in the strangest ways, haha. They even had a dance contest type thing, it was funny. The winner got one of their CDs, lolz. & I loved how they introduced the members of the band, they did the Name song (Eddie Eddie bo-beddie, banana fanna fo-feddie, fi-fi-fo-feddie, Eddie) & for their first song, they spelled out B-A-B-Y a la YMCA style. They were so much fun! Oh yeah, Kelly Pratt, Jon Natchez, & Paul Collins from Beirut came out & played trumpet with them for their last song, it was so gooood.

Then came the moment EVERYONE was waiting for. Beirut takes the stage & opens with Nantes. I couldn't believe it. I mean, I knew I was there, I have the tickets, I bought a shirt & poster, I saw the fucking tour bus! But it all just felt so surreal. The show really was amazing, I love how Zach talks to the audience. I love the mix they played, going from Nantes to Brandenburg & then I think they played one of their new songs. It was so good, all horn stuff. & then The Penalty. I lost track of the songs they played, I just got caught up in it all & I didn't want to lose it cos I wouldn't know when I'd be able to see them live next. Just seeing all the instruments used makes me appreciate & love this band even more. It makes me love being able to play some of those instruments too. Seeing an accordion, a violin, drum kit, two basses (upright bass ftw.), a guitar, at least three or four ukes, mandolins, baritones, french horns, keyboard, A GLOCKENSPIEL, & a flugel horn...I'm a band geek, I know, but it was so amazing. Not only that, they at least knew how to play all of them. & they did perform O Leãozinho, omg. I listen to recordings from other concerts when they performed it...but it was so much better live. It's so beautiful.

It was absolutely the coolest thing ever, they left the stage, came back for an encore, left again, CAME BACK AGAIN, decided they needed more beer so they slowly shuffled off to the corner of the stage & discussed their need for beer & who would go on a beer run for them, then came back on & played more songs! Dude, when they played 'Gulag Orkestar,' the crowd just went insane. & then moving to Siki Siki Baba? Paul didn't play the bass for the song, or the trumpet that night either, & he kept dancing during it, Sylvia & I were just laughing & taking it all in. The crowd went nuts, I'm pretty sure most of the people in the theater sang along during these two songs. I know I did. How can you not, it just builds & builds & you can't help but get swept up in the excitement.

I could go on & on about the concert. But nothing I say would do it any justice. I could spout off so many words that would describe it, how it was, how I felt during & after the concert, but it wouldn't fully describe it. This goes beyond words & you just have to be there to fully understand it all. I said it felt surreal that night. It still does. I don't think it would ever not feel surreal. It's just amazing how he's only 22 & he's already this good. Seeing him & the rest of the band live...no words. Really, nothing I could say would truly fit my experiences of that night.

Thank you so much, Sylvia, for coming with me to the concert & driving & holding my poster while I took pictures. Hahaha =]
& Thank you, Zach Condon & Beirut, for presenting me with one of the best nights of my life. =]

Pictures here if anyone's curious.

signing off, s.
